Ever since Jack Osbourne took over this tour has been less and less accessible. I'm not going to a concert just to see bands that do nothing but scream. Consider my business lost.
People like you don't get it. Who the hell cares if all they do is scream? It's the music that counts. Most heavy metal is more technical than anything you'll ever hear, and the musical prowess is what's amazing, not the dude sounding like an angry bear with hemorrhoids.
Not bad so far. I don't know anybody on the second stage except Hatebreed lol. But Hatebreed, Lamb of God, and Lordi isn't a bad start.
I wouldn't put Lordi into the mix of people who can scream. Lordi are if Dragonforce beat the shit out of Gwar and stole their outfits.
Rargh, checking out the first Ozzfest line-up, the current one looks weaker than ever. Time for European festivals to dominate, hah. Hellfest all the way.
As much as I love Lamb of God, Hatebreed, and Ozzy, I don't think I'm going to this one, unless there's atleast one major band I would love to see. Like, I dunno... Iron Maiden. (Yeah, like that would happen again)
The instrumentation is amazing, yes. But the bear with hemorrhoids ruins it for me. It's like getting a brand new sports car, and only finding out it can go 40MPH tops. It derails it completely for me, and I know damn well I'd be like "HEAVY METAL ALL THE WAY" if there was a lot more singing involved. Heck I love screaming in music. Just not through the whole thing.
I think that's the case for a lot of people. I myself am a fan of "select" bands that have this style of primarily screaming throughout the song, but i agree that it doesn't matter how good the instrumentation is if the you can't stand the vocals.
I wasn't trying to be an ass, and looking back on my post, that's what I seemed like. But a lot of my friends claim they don't like that music just because of the bear-vocals but they never look PAST the bear-vocals to what counts: the music. Sure, the vocals are a part of the music...but still.
In my opinion there are two types of screaming in songs: The Awesome Kind Of Screaming This style of song almost needs screaming in it. The screaming just feels as if it is meant to coincide with the vibe and feel of the instrumental work. The screaming and the instruments played together just create an energy that gets the adrenaline going and makes for a badass song. Some great examples of this are certain Slipknot, Killswitch Engage and Trivium (pre-Crusade) songs. The Fucked Up Terrible Type Of Screaming Some screaming in songs just make the song seem fucking terrible. For example alot of Hatebreed and Arch Enemy songs. This kind of screaming isn't thrash or heavy but just plain annoying. The screaming often doesn't coincide well or even at all with the instrumental work which makes the song sound awful when sometimes in actual fact the instrumental work kicks ass (Kind of like when Matt Heafy attempts to sing over some awsome instrumental work). Anyhoo the lineup is alright so far, just need to get rid of Hatebreed.
