It feels a bit incomplete. I wished it had like a proper bridge or a switch up after the 2nd chorus, but it's definitely still the most interesting song on the album imo.
Probably because ATS is my favourite album of theirs, I hope LP continue to push this aspect of their sound. It's really moody in a good way and the gradual build up to the ending is nice. I also really enjoy the lyrics to this one as well.
I was saying to the other staff that I wish it were 4.5 minutes. There was more to explore here. I won't lie that it's been stuck in my head all day, though.
I think this track’s by far my favorite on the album, but I also agree I wish it had more room to breathe. It feels like there’s space for another minute or two in there to really settle into the sound it’s building, but I guess it runs counter to the theme of this album being short tracks leaving you wanting more (or maybe it fits perfectly with that theme for exactly that reason). I’m hoping for more of this sound in future projects, either way, because it’s been the song stuck in my head since the listening party last week.
Honestly, I didn’t enjoy this track much. It feels a bit empty. I appreciate that they tried something different here, but I struggle to find anything truly memorable about it.
Feels a little like Fort Minor in the mindset of A Thousand Suns. Love the cosmic vibes and the apocalyptic imagery. Kind of surprised it's taken Linkin Park eight albums to use the word "oblivion". It leaves you wanting more - another chorus, a climactic bridge - and yet it's still satisfying in the end. Hopefully it's a glimpse of things to come ala Breaking the Habit on Meteora.
I hear Massive Attack meets Radiohead meets Deftones on this, with strong industrial/dark pop vibes. Absolutely love it. That kind of dystopian atmosphere is my jam. Favorite off the record for now.
Keep seeing some people describe Overflow as being weird and the one that is the most different from anything the band has done before. Now I would agree that it is different but in the best way with strong Massive Attack vibes which is so sick. I would add that they have done much more left field type of production imo on ATS and LT with tracks like When They Come for Me, Robot Boy, Blackout, and Skin To Bone. Is Overflow REALLY that far left field when looking back into their catalog at this point in the game? Overflow is one of the best songs they’ve done if u asks me
If LP have released roughly 100 non-interlude songs on official releases, and Overflow is one of the ~5 most experimental/non-traditional songs relative to the rest of their catalogue, I don't think it's that outlandish to talk up its uniqueness. But yes it's not quite as "out there" as WTCFM, Blackout, etc. Definitely the most weird song from the last three albums (FZ included).
Not at all denying its uniqueness, for I find it to be unique as hell within their catalog. I just don’t find it to be a weird track when they’ve gone weirder before. I guess for me it’s less weird and more surprising, pleasantly I might add.
The way this track drifts and sways from a haunting, silky smooth numb disassociation to frustrating grit against a dredging instrumental. Such an infectious rise just to be cut abruptly with the Fuse sample. I like what that does as a kind of artists message to the listener, as the most forward feeling track on FZ. It’s like a tease on purpose. A “Woah, we’re all having fun here, but we’re getting off topic now.”
I like the more experimental approach, it's actually reminiscent of A Thousand Suns. I don't like Mike's delivery on here, though, just like on "Good Things Go." A shame. I also find the ending of the song to be a bit confusing. When the guitar kicks in, it feels like it's going towards a climax, but it just kind of stays where it is. So I think the atmospherics here and Emily's vocal lines are a great idea that is marred by these other elements.
Easily the best track on the album. So haunting and the slow build is fucking glorious. It's been a while since we've had an LP song that can be so accurately described as "pure vibes."
This is absolutely my favorite track from the album. Love the atmosphere in this one, and those guitars at the end sound so great, they really match the tone of the track. Mike's delivery on this one is... interesting... but I don't mind it tbh. The way he delivers "I can feel it coming" is great, and the vocal effects add to his delivery, as well. While I think it could've been cool to see where this song went if it had a longer length, but on the other hand, I'm glad it didn't overstay it's welcome. Short and sweet can be good, and I thoroughly enjoyed it from front to back! 87/100
Same thoughts when I first heard the song. Both Overflow + Lift off are also my favourites off each respective album!
