Linkin Park has just released the third single from their upcoming album From Zero, "Over Each Other". The first talk about "Over Each Other" being released as the third single started when a screenshot of the Amazon Prime streaming service marked the song as avilable. Then, on October 18, a scavenger hunt started that showed images from the music video and lyrics from the song. Fans from all over the world had to hunt these images down, starting in Paris, it went through Buenos Aires, Madrid, Toronto, Phoenix, Seattle, Milan, Auckland, Atlanta, Philadelphia, Mexico City, Jakarta and finally ending in New York. In New York we got a short teaser of the music video and a release date. The date had however already been revealed by Joe Hahn on Instagram the same day that the scavenger hunt began. "Over Each Other" brings back Jon Green as a co-writer, he also co-wrote "Nobody Can Save Me" and "Battle Symphony" on One More Light. Matias Mora is also credited as a co-writer on the song. Originally when the song was written, Mike Shinoda was doing all the vocals early in the writing process, but as the process of writing and recording the album went on, eventually the song ended up with Emily Armstrong doing most of the vocals and Mike can only be heard in the background at certain spots. You can find the song on your favourite streaming platforms, like Apple Music, Spotify, and YouTube. What do you think of the song? What do you think of the music video? Come and discuss in our forums.
Good song. As a fan of OML and M2M, I appreciate it a lot. That said I'll take the all Mike Shinoda version now kthx. Nothing against Emily I'm just extremely curious how he sounds on it.
Initial reaction? Kind of ambivalent on it after one listen on the music video and one streaming. I'm sure subsequent listens will sharpen my opinion on it. I'm at least glad we're getting a diverse palette of singles. I think this has made it more clear for me that TEM was the strongest choice for lead single!
Sounds like an OML song but with more punch, not bad. Once again, I find the verses a bit underwhelming, but the chorus hits the nail. Edit: After more listens I don't see this is growing on me more tbh. A nice song but nothing outstanding about it. I would definitely not care for this if it wasn't by LP though.
I'm absolutely loving the music video. It evokes strong emotions. I can see that it is telling a story of self-destruction and regret.
Much more melodic and on the softer side compared to the first 2 singles--which means, yup, Linkin Park really is back. I'm really happy Emily finally has her solo LP song to showcase her singing, and she sounds fantastic with the emotional aspects of the song. And Colin's drumming really stands out here as well. If TEM was reintroducing Linkin Park to the world and HITC was Linkin Park showing they still got it, "Over Each Other" 100% was fleshing out Emily and Colin's range and abilities to the world. Also this might be the most sleek and cinematic video Joe has ever directed.
I actually probably enjoy this one more than HITC. I like that we are getting a record where both of these songs can cohexists without feeling out of place! I love the synth melody in the verses and the big drumming
The song is definitely a good choice for a single i guess, but i can also see why the choose it as the third one Nice to have a kinda chill song next to the heavy ones right now.
I think this is it too. It makes sense, after almost a decade away they want to come back with something that reminds people what they love most about the band.
I am really digging this new era with Emily, and I appreciate the new vocal styles and textures she's bringing to Linkin Park with her voice. Gotta say, coming back with a new vocalist could've been a total disaster, but this album is shaping up to be a fairly decent record, and a good addition to their discography. Even if some songs seem to be deliberate throwbacks to old sounds (HITC is pure Meteora), there's not a song I've heard off of this new record that I've truly disliked. And part of me feels the best is yet to come. Can't wait to get my press review copy. This album is going to be a fun journey.
Emily has this almost American country/southern twang in her voice I really like. It comes off much more clearly in this song compared to the other two.
I liked but it's not mindblowing. Sounds more like Mike solo stuff than LP. It's been a while since I listened to Pvris but this song reminded me the vibe of some songs. It's a grower for sure. Great video by Joe. Emily's vocals are amazing once again...can't wait to hear this one live. Gotta say, I was iffy about Colin with the first live show, but he is KILLING on the drums on this record. Very excited to hear the rest.
I like the double use of the title of the song. All we are is talkin', Over Each Other. Are we Over Each Other? Definitely a grower, not what I expected but I like it.
That's one of the things that stood out to me that I enjoyed as well. It's a completely different flavor and sound to what we've heard from Chester. Closest maybe was Sharp Edges as that had a slight country feel to it, but it really sets her apart and makes this era stand on it's own feet.
