What are your guys opinions on when LP uses swear words? I've always appreciated how they have used them because they don't overuse them and it's always to add emotion or raw power. Like on THP, when I heard "I f*** up everything I see" at the beginning of the album, I knew this album meant business. And on AFN, when Mike swears, it just adds to the power of the song.
I think they handle it very well. For me, I don't think they need to swear at all, but that's just what I believe. I'm just glad they are mature about it and don't use them like little kids. Except when Mike talks about trying ketchup and stuff...
As long as they're not used just for the sake of cussing, and actually fit in the context of the song, does it really fucking matter?
Yeah Linkin Park does it very naturally so I don't mind. TBH swearing was one of the reasons I was avoiding Linkin Park when I was a kid, keep in mind, I didn't know Linkin Park as Linkin Park until MTM. So the songs I heard were bleed it out and Given up. I was just a naive little boy then.
I think the band does well to not overdo swear words. At the same time, words are just words to me and it doesn't really matter. I think they do well considering that they do have a lot of younger fans. I think it gives more power to certain songs. Comstock brings up a great example with "Blackout." That part makes the song so good for me, even if it seems so simple.
I'm not a cusser whatsoever, but I don't care about the guys cussing. In fact, they do a great job of not cussing for the sake of cussing.
I still don't understand why we as a society make "cuss words" as these awful, horrible words that no one should say. I understand how it's rude and disrespectful in some cases, but so is calling someone an idiot or (admins please don't take this word down cause I'm trying to make a point) saying that they are retarded. Which in my opinion, calling someone retarded is even worse than calling them some combination of cuss words. Just my opinion on the subject cause I just had this conversation with my friend a couple of days ago. And if the admins have a problem with me using that word, just let me know and I'll change it to "the r-word" or whatever makes you happy.
I've gotta say they are incredibly tasteful when it comes to swearing which is why I've never been against it.
Linkin Park rarely curses and when they do, I love it, because it's used in a way that really adds emotion to the lyric or the vocal section. I swear all the time, too, so I am a bit biased. Haha.
