I walked downtown after school on Tuesday to pick up a copy of this one, probably the first one in the area to get one

Well, it was well worth the $25 I paid, and much more. I would probably have paid double if I knew what I was getting. Opeth's new DVD is stunning in its music, atmosphere, the band itself, as well its such a work of art as a 'movie' too!

It contains a 'mellow' set to start off, covering their fragile 'Damnation' album that they released last April. Starting off with the captivating track 'Windowpane'. 'Damnation' was brought to life partly by guest keyboarist Per Wiberg, adding the essential Mellotron, Rhodes, and Vibes sounds that added a great atmosphere, not to mention some very accurate backing vocals. They also played the fan-favourite acoustic ballad 'Harvest' off Blackwater Park.

Then, you hear some light music during the intermission...the lights go dark, and here's Opeth LASHING at you with the brutal death metal track of MASTER'S APPRENTICES! All of the heavy set pieces are over TEN MINUTES! The atmosphere is darker now, a headbanging fest with the whole place becoming one huge mosh pit to the crushingly heavy but complex riffs, coming one after another. They play the soft/loud/soft contrasts of 'The Drapery Falls', the heavy Juggernaut of 'Deliverance' (everyone went crazy at the ending), as well as 'The Leper Affinity'. When all this died down, Per Wiberg comes and plays the melancholic piano opening of the closer 'A Fair Judgement', that features some of the most powerful moments in all of music.

Its a really mind blowing experience. Fans of Opeth (and especially of their last three albums) will love this!

PS: There is a documentary, showing the recording of the double album Deliverance/Damnation, showing how much they love music, and how classy and cool these guys are!

    Damn! Its really good!

The bassist, Martin Mendez looks pretty hardcore in the heavy set. He puts he hair in front of his face, and kinda swings it to the percussion, mainly the snare beats or accents. The mosh pit in that show was pretty intense too :phoenix:
