    LYRICS COMPETITION - 2008
    Once again hosted by GiriosXeni
(or Louis, if you prefer, I don't really care)

So, yeah, another lyrics competition. It’s definitely been a while since I’ve put one up here. Unfortunately, the past few haven’t gone so well, and as it is, the Writer’s Cove has barely been acting up lately. However, I’m not going to let this piece of the LPA die. I’m bringing it back, Girios style.

First thing’s first. Past competition winners, here’s what’s going down. I haven’t managed to give any of you guys your prizes, so you’re just going to get it straight out. I will see if I can work out 15 dollars worth of iTunes for each of you. This may take me a while because cash is somewhat hard to get my hands on. But do not worry, I will get prizes out. I promise. This applies to 1st place winners only. I’m sorry to 2nd and 3rd place past winners. I am not capable of awarding you. However, you will be recognized when results are posted.

Next, the competition itself is pretty much like all other competitions. Your entry can be whatever you want it to be. However, it must be in accordance with the rules and regulations of these wonderful forums. If your entry is valid, it will be entered.

Just for the record, I would appreciate it if all entries were written with proper grammar, spelling, and capitalization. It makes everyone’s time a lot easier. And also, your entry must have a title for easy organization.

    SCHEDULE

Submission of Entries Begin: January 7, 2008 at 12:00 AMArizona Time, which is Mountain Time basically (-7:00, I believe?). This gives you a bit less than a week to start writing your entries. I will not be accepting submitted entries until the 7th (I have to set some things up until then). All entries that do not coincide within the time schedule as well as the rules aforementioned will be turned away.

Submission will go from the 7th for a total of 3 weeks. Submission ends January 22, 2008 at 12:00 AM. Any entries submitted after may not be accepted. A week will then pass in order to get the submissions in order and posted somewhere that can be easily accessed.

Also, regarding submissions, if you make a submission, you may withdraw it for revisions or to submit a different entry. To make a withdrawal, send an e-mail to [email protected] with your LPA username, the name of your entry, and the reason for withdrawal. Your revised / exchanged entry must be submitted before the deadline shown above. Keep in mind that it is only one entry per person. This includes collaboration. If two people submit one piece that they collaborated together with, they cannot submit a solo entry. That is their single submission.

To give you a more visual description, your withdrawal form must be written like so:

    Subject: LPA_LC_Submission_Withdrawal
    LPA Username:
    Entry Name:
    Reason for Withdrawal:

Voting will begin: January 28, 2008 at 12:00 AM (remember that all of this is in my time zone, Arizona / Mountain Time). I will be giving you 2 weeks to vote. That should be enough time for you guys to vote. Voting ends February 12, 2008 at 12:00 AM.

    Regarding voting:

You may vote for up to 2 entries of your choice. You may not vote for your own submission.

There are certain styles in which submissions and votes must be submitted for easy organization. For submissions:

    Subject of E-mail: LPA_LC_Submission
    LPA Username:
    Title of Submission:
    Style of Submission:
    Submission:

    For voting:

    Subject of E-mail: LPA_LC_Vote(s)
    LPA Username:
    Entry Choice #1:
    Entry Choice #2 (optional):
    Reason(s) (optional):

Submissions and votes must be sent to: [email protected].

    How voting will work:

As was mentioned, you may vote for up to two entries. If you vote for one entry, that entry will only receive one point. If you vote for two, each of those entries will receive one point as well. Voting for one entry will not give it two points. Obviously, the entry with the most votes wins. There will be no prizes for 2nd or 3rd place, but they will be recognized.

In the case of a tie, there will be a tiebreaker competition for 1st place (not for 2nd and 3rd, ties will simply be posted). The entries will be recognized for first place, but their authors will remain anonymous. They will be reposted, and will be given a bit more than a week for votes. In this situation, the authors cannot vote. To vote for the winner, your vote must be written as such:

    Subject of E-mail: LPA_LC_TB_Vote
    LPA Username:
    Entry Choice:
    Reason (optional):

Tiebreaker voting ends on February 23, 2008 at 12:00 AM.

Before I go on, it is important that the subjects listed must be written in the subject line of your e-mail. This makes organization a lot easier for me.

To make things a bit special, there will also be a ‘GX Special Writer’s Award,’ which will be given by me. Yes, we did agree not to have judges some time ago but this is something that might be kind of cool. Since I will be managing the entries, I will obviously be reading them. I do get a chance to vote, so obviously the Special Writer’s Award will be the one I gave my vote to. The recipient receives a prize separate from the 1st place winner, unless they are one in the same.

For suspense purposes, which entry is yours and which entry (or entries) you have voted for must not be revealed on the forums until the results are posted. Anyone who decides to ruin the anonymity of a certain entry or their vote will have their vote removed and their entry disqualified from competition.

So, that’s pretty much the gist of it. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to ask. I will accept private messages. Do not send e-mails regarding any questions or comments to the address shown above.

Before I really finish this up, I would really appreciate it if a lot of people entered, and even more so, a lot of people voted. I would appreciate if people would spread the word about this competition. Please post links to this page in your signatures and things like that. Talk about it in Random Thoughts threads lots and tell your friends outside of the LPA to join the LPA and to take part in this competition! I’m trying to make this competition really awesome and the best yet so please help out!

Well, there you have it. Get started on those entries!

    GX

I think keeping it open-ended is going to be more fun for us. It's a lot easier to write when you don't have to write about one specific topic. Also it'll be good for people voting so they're not really reading the same thing over and over, you know? Either way, it's going to be a lot of fun. I can't wait to read everyone's pieces.

Awesome I was actually hoping something like this would happen. Now, I will actually have more reason to write something instead of just tying what ever I can. I can take my time with a pencil and write a masterpiece. *Thinks of a subject to write about*

    Will - I'm glad you're excited. I am too.
    Andrea - You're very welcome.
Luke - Yeah, I think so too.
Mr. Nobody - It has been suggested before and I thought about it when I was writing up the competition rules and whatnot. I think it's probably better that you're not limited. I mean, it does work either way. One person may do better under no limits and another may do better with a guideline. However, I think it's best that you can right about whatever you want and find your full potential that way. Oh, and you're very welcome. I'm loving it too.
Nick - Please, do join. I'd like to see a lot of people join this competition.
Gan - Yeah, this has been around before a few times but it only really got people going the first couple of times. It's been a while so hopefully this is the best one. I look forward to seeing your masterpiece.
link_in_the_park - I'm glad you're in. I may post the tallies. I haven't thought about how I'm going to be posting results and whatnot. I'll consider it if you'd like.
Dean - No, you will. Please, though, do join.
FortLinkin24 - No, you will too. You should join. If you write a lot, this is something you should be participating in. I'd like to see a lot of writers join. :)
Nick - It can be anything writing-related. Whether it be lyrics, poem, a story, an article, an essay, anything. If you have any questions about a certain form of writing that might be the structure of your entry, don't hesitate to private message me and ask.

General questions can be asked here, but if there's anything regarding your entry specifically, I would like you guys to private message me.

Thank you for the support. And thank you, Andrea, for promoting this in your signature. I greatly appreciate it. I would appreciate it if more of you got the word out about this. Thanks again, guys. :)

EDIT: Thanks to Will, also, for promoting the competition in his signature. Means a lot.

You'd better get something written, Dean. I'll be extremely disappointed if you don't.

You've got more than 3 weeks. Make it good, Smith. :p

I'm sure you'll manage to write something before the deadline. You've got a bit over 3 weeks. That's a good deal of time.

Thank you for promoting the competition in your signature, by the way. It means a lot. :)

Thanks for giving us a lot of time to write something Louis.

If I enter this at all I want to break away from my usual writing style. I feel as if currently I write too blatantly and don't try to explore the metaphors that lie behind the feelings that I am trying to convey when writing the lyrics I'm making.

So I will likely enter, but don't expect my entry till like the last moment.
