ok in deep discussion with my friend Justin me and him kept going back and forth about which slipknot albums were better He favors the first 2 (Selftitled/Iowa) I favor the latter 2(Vol.3/All Hope Is Gone) and he doesnt really have like a good reason on why he thinks the first ones are betterbut thats typical of him lol I like the newer ones cuz they sound more mature and dont sound so dated Idk SO im curious on what Slipknot fans here think Which 2 do you prefer?
I personally prefer new slipknot. There is more diversity from song to song and I enjoy the softer moments (circles, vermillion pt.2, snuff). It also follows a thrashier route which I enjoy more.
Vol. 3/All Hope Is Gone. They're just more mature, and their acoustic tracks are actualy very good. The first 2 albums are still brilliant though.
I like the self-titled and the subliminal verses. The other two had a few gems, but nothing like their 1st and 3rd full lengths.
I don't listen to these guys much anymore, but I prefer the self-titled and vol. 3. The others never, ever get played.
The band evolved from being nine fucked up angry guys to nine intellectual truthtelling musicians in my opinion. I love old skool Slipknot (I play 'Eyeless' almost every day) but I much prefer their modern sound - it's alot less chaotic and a hell of alot more melodic which I reckon is vital in music. On a side note I'd like to say that Corey Taylor is one of my heroes.
I've heard from sources that it's nearly impossible to view the state of California unless you are using the eyes of one Marlon Brando. Is this assumption correct?
I see your points, but their last album just didn't do it for me. It just seemed that they were trying to please far too many people and the results ended up being just a little drab... one of the reviewers off of sputnikmusic got it spot-on actually: "All Hope is Gone is a veritable loot bag of metal stylings. But as it so typically goes with loot bags, there is something for everyone but it's ultimately just a bunch of random shit thrown together." but hey, that's just my opinion.
I personally loved All Hope Is Gone they have evolved so much in the last 10 years its amazing. They started off great and started to get better and bettter with every release. I look foward to what they do in the future
This assumption would be correct...it seems you're the only motherfucker with a brain! In all seriousness though, as much as uber metal fans would disagree, I personally think All Hope Is Gone is Slipknot's best album. The only downfall about it is that Child Of Burning Time and 'Til We Die only made the limited edition.
Chaos definitely has it's place in music, though. Anyway, I thought All Hope is Gone was boring, but then again, My Plague is the only Slipknot song i've ever reeaally liked.
The self-titled album is just a great example of some fucked up, scary ass weird metal. It's great. "Iowa" is alittle more mainstream, but it definately still has balls. "Vol. 3" was just... bland. It had it's moments, but a band like Slipknot shouldn't be doing ballads, unless it's like the song "Iowa". All the mellow stuff on that album was just garbage. I haven't really listened to "All Hope Is Gone" yet, surprisingly. Only listened to the title track, really. I had that on repeat on my iPod for a good few weeks. I guess my answer is the first two albums. I grew up listening to Slipknot. "Spit It Out", "Wait & Bleed", "People = Shit", "Left Behind"... I played the fuck out of those songs when I was younger. This was when Napster was still around, too. I feel old.
Trying to compare them implies that one of them is actually good. Just kidding (somewhat). I prefer newer Slipknot, I at least find their more recent material to be lisetenable. I'd say they've actually turned into songwriters/musicians now, as opposed to their "songs" being vaguely musical methods of channeling angst.
The lootbag analogy is pretty good actually... most of the tracks on that album just sounded derivative of other bands to me. I mean, on Volume 3 and to a slightly lesser extent on Iowa they started to get better at actually writing songs, and even though I haven't been that into them for a while I was looking forward to All Hope Is Gone. Needless to say it disappointed me. Sure, on a more analytical level they're getting better but if anything I get more out of the first two or three albums. What they lacked in actual skill I think they made up for in ingenuity and emotion.
