Hi this is my first thread on this forum. I have been following Linkin Park since they release Hybrid Theory. On Friday I bought this album and my initial reaction was that Old Linkin Park is dead. After I got over the passing of old Linkin Park I re-listened to the album and I absolutely love it. The lyrics, the style, the interludes they all make this an awesome album. Quick question what genre is A Thousand Suns, thanks. By the way my favourite song on this album is Waiting For The End.

I'm glad that a big fan of the old Linkin Park [Hybrid Theory, Meteora] enjoyed this album, as some people on these forums have said that they liked the old stuff but hate the new stuff. You can really tell they have matured, just like you said with the lyrics and the style. There is no main genre I don't think this album can settle in, listen to the album you really get a sense or several genres in there.

I love that they have matured as the lyrics are deeper. What people don't realise is this album is from Linkin Park's heart, in other words they are defying the media and not selling out. As with everything there will be haters. Did you like The Messenger & Iridescent? I reckon they are really cool, I don't know why so many people who like the album hate those songs.

I did like those two songs, yes.
The other thing is that they ignored, and pushed aside everything that everyone was telling them to sound like and they did their own album- how they wanted it to sound. Like what Mike sings in When They Come For Me,
    and

No offence taken. How well do you think this album is going to sell?

And with how this album has no certain genre, also expresses how diverse it is
So many different song structures and sounds, i love it! xD

It's a mesh of reggae, progressive rock, alternative, rap, rock, dance, techno in my perspective. I don't like labeling music, but I suppose it acts as a discernible guideline.

Once people take off the nostalgia glasses and actually judge the older albums on their actual musical merit and not just how epic it was when they were 12, they no longer seem like just classics and you can enjoy the newer, different stuff a little more.

I came into this album not expecting to hear any nu-metal or anything pre MTM for that matter. That's the trick i think. I only hoped for this album to have decent music, and that's what i got, and them some.

That's what people are doing to bands like Kings of Leon as well. They just released a new single which sounds more like their stuff prior to Sex On Fire, and fans are disappointed cause they were hoping for more songs similar to that

Even though I only like a couple of songs from the album, I'll give them props for doing what they wanted to do vs what everyone else wants them to do. Reggae though, seriously?

At this point in your post, I was about to skip ahead and go into my whole 'I respect your opinion, I honestly think that Linkin Park is better than ever, blablabla et cetera spiel', but then I read on.

And now I say, welcome to the ATS supporters union! We have meetings every weekday from 2-3PM.

Genre of ATS - Linkin Park. That's what I think, personally.
