I know we had one ages ago, but I don't want to necropost. UFC 100 is over. Brock Lesnar is the undisputed UFC Heavyweight Champion. Their only real competition, Affliction, ceased operations a few days ago, canceling their third PPV, "Trilogy", which was going to be headlined by Fedor/Barnett, because of the latter's failure of a drug test for steroids. Josh is now retreating back to Japan to wrestle for Antonio Inoki's IGF promotion. July was a big month for MMA, but I think it's about to get even bigger. It's expected that on Friday, UFC will announce a new TV deal with ABC on their "ESPN on ABC". Also, Fedor is in talks with the UFC (again), but the negotiations are falling through (again) because of M-1, which Fedor holds a stake in. Apparently, the UFC offered Fedor 5 million a fight, for 6 fights. His first fight in the UFC would be Brock Lesnar for the championship, obviously, to determine the #1 Heavyweight in the World. They backtracked themselves and said they'd allowed Fedor to compete in Russian sambo tournaments, too. Oh yeah, and they told Fedor he could promote M-1 on his trunks, etc. with as many logos and whatnot as he sees fit. AND M-1 would get a slice of the PPV money, ON TOP of Fedor's purse if he won. FUCKING IDIOTS. The only way Fedor will sign with UFC (according to M-1) is if the UFC co-promotes with M-1. Atleast Kimbo Slice is getting a shot in the UFC, right guys?! Hello?
I was disappointed with the way Brock acted after this match. I know it's old news but he really looked like a jerk. I don't really have a comment on Kimbo Slice. I've heard he is a cool guy but the way he went out in that one fight must have killed his ego. It's nice to see he isn't giving up. I'm excited about the fight between Gina Carano and Cris "Cyborg" Santos on August 15th. I won't be able to watch it on television but you know I will be trying to see it online! Anyways, UFC 101 should be good with BJ Penn.
I guess you hate Tito Ortiz too? His antics are the same, if not worse, than Brock's. I kinda like Brock's attitude after the match. Every UFC fan doubted his skills just because he was ex-WWE. Mir is a complete jackass anyway. If the Heath Herring win didn't prove it, and the win over Couture didn't, then surely his dominance over Mir at 100 did. The UFC fans are just flat out disrespectful sometimes. I should say the Sherdog people, but they're basically one in the same. Either way you slice it, Coors and Bud both taste like ass anyway. Kimbo really did get knocked down a notch or two after his loss to Petruzelli. Kimbo, Seth & Ken Shamrock all had a hand in killing EliteXC, if you ask me, just like Barnett basically killed Affliction. I guess the only viable contender to the UFC throne, in the US atleast, is Strikeforce now. Unless by some miracle M-1's debut US show does pretty well.
I'm far from a fan of his, but Brock doesn't really bother me. If anything, he's only added excitement to one of the most boring weight-classes in MMA. The Fedor-UFC situation, while disappointing, wasn't exactly surprising. M1's demands have been outrageous, and I don't blame the UFC brass one bit for the contract talks falling through. As a fan I really want to see guys like Fedor and Gegard Mousasi in the UFC (the potential match-ups would be insane), but I won't hold my breath.
Unfortunately, I think UFC targets the type of douche bags that are on Sherdog. Most of the fan base relates to people like Ortiz and Brock.
MAJOR NEWS... ...Anderson Silva is the king of the Middleweight & Light Heavyweight divisions. Holy shit. And BJ Penn continues his dominance. KenFlo is good, but not on the level as Penn.
Anderson fucked Forrest's world up. That was intense. BJ reasserting his supremacy of the lightweight division is awesome. I guess a Penn-Sanchez fight is up next.
ya everyone threw a fucking bitch fit about LEsnar after his match..Tito ORtiz did that shit for years and nobody complained. Lesnar had the right to do that..he was obviously frustrated that nobody takes him seriously and like C-Truth said Mir was an asshole too. He was another that talked alotta shit. How come there cant be a good fighter without an ego
I haven't seen the fight yet but: I knew Penn was going to win. His skills (especially his Brazilian Jiu Jitsu) are just superior to Florians. I'm proud of all fighters that utilize their technical BJJ skills over straight ground and pound.
Anderson Silva exists not in our world, but in the Matrix. There were rumours that Griffin left the Octagon and didn't stick around for the official announcement becaus he had a broken jaw and hearing loss. His management says it's not true, though. He probably went to cry in private so he doesn't break down like the Jardine fight. Oh, and there's another rumour that after that fight, Silva decided he wants to stay at 205 and fight in the Light Heavyweight division, and vacate the Middleweight title. If the rumour is to be believed, Dana actually likes the idea. Presumably if this happens, Hendo will be getting one of the two slots in the new title match. I really hope this happens. If the Silva/Hendo rematch happens, we all know who's going to win, and there's another name value fighter that's been knocked down a peg or two by being defeated. Then Silva moves to 205, and who is left to claim the Middleweight division? One more thing. UFC is apparently going to war with Strikeforce since they signed Fedor. They're preparing to contest the contracts of Gegard Mousasi and and Renato Sobral that they signed with Strikeforce, since I guess they're one of the 30 fighters' contracts that got sold to UFC in a deal with Affliction after they ceased operations. It's an interesting time to be a fan of MMA.
The funny thing about that is that it doesn't even seem like he punched him very hard at all. He looks so relaxed, he doesn't even have his hands up. My trainer would kill me if I ever walked around with my hands at my sides like that.
