According to Chester Bennington in a recent MTV.com interview, the new album will be completely devoid of the nu-metal sound that made them popular back when they burst onto the scene in the year 2000.

"We're going for the music that inspired us, rather than the nü-metal type of sound,"
frontman Chester Bennington said "We're ripping that out. It's completely gone."

When questioned about this surprising turn of events, Chester went on to say:

"We've always been known for mixing a lot of different genres of music and not pigeonholing ourselves in one particular sound, but by doing so, we've kind of pigeonholed ourselves into our sound,"
Bennington said backstage at Saturday's Inland Invasion concert where he performed with Alice in Chains, "It sounds strange, but there's a common thread that people are going to expect, and we're trying to pull that out of the new music."

Finally, Chester also shot down the rumor that has been flying around in regards to Linkin Park putting out a possible double album, due to their large library of recorded songs for the new disc:

"The whole double-album thing is like the kiss of death," he said. "Not that it's not a great idea in theory, but when you put it out, it's just not."

For the entire article which features more quotes from Chester regarding the new album and his solo album, as well as confirmation that an album title has been more or less been chosen (but not yet revealed) please click here

Well well! This article has nothing new that we all know! Hopefully we will get an album title soon though.

This has made me very excited.

My guess, considering Chester's quote about the album title, is that the new album will be called 'Whirlwind', 'Crisis' (sorry Alexisonfire,), 'Hurricane' or 'Hectic'. Heh.

TRT what are you talking about? This is pretty new info to me. Rather then say 'yeah we're gonna be different', Chester has finally gone into detail.

Punk and classic rock in an LP CD? Amazing.

Hopefully he means classic punk too..like London punk.

    Me too.

I think they'll go past the nü-metal sound their known for and make something mind blowingly new but still somewhat stick to their roots. :D At least that's what I hope.

I can't imagine Brad's guitar being so basic anymore, though.

Which is the most exciting part of all. Qwerty was already a step up for Brad and reports suggest that LP wont have it on their next cd cause it doesnt match the caliber of the other shit.

Imagine..an LP album where QWERTY isnt good enough. Damn!

jesus, I really really hope there is no "Punky Park" in the next album. flame me all ya want, but I love "nu-metal" and the Hybrid Theory sound, I hope they don't stray TOO far from it. if they have evolved their sound from nu-metal with more rock elements, I will be happy. Kind of like "One-X", IMO, 3DG evolved their sound and it's such a great "rock" album, not TOO nu-metalish. With LP, being any other genre than what they are, it's gonna take a while for me to get used to, but with it being LP, I have yet to hear a shitty song by them.

I agree with Derek on the QWERTY comment, if that's the "worst" song on the album, I will seriously garner wood when I hear this album for the first time,

I was really skeptical after Meteora but I gotta say, I find my faith being restored in the band. We could have something great with this CD, especially if they pick the right 'influences'.

These guys always know the right thing to hype up their albums. This has me EXCITED.

My ideal 'influences' for the next album:

    Punk
    The Clash
    Sex Pistols
    Ramones
The Who (yes they're considered Punk by some)

    Classic Rock
    Black Sabbath
    Led Zepplin
    AC/DC
    The Cure

    Vintage Hip-Hop
    Jay-Z (reasonable doubt era)
    Nas (Illmatic era)
Jurassic 5 (not vintage persay but damn good)
    ===

    What are your ideal influences?

ZOMG MY FIRST NEWS POST LOL!

After giving it some thought, I'm really excited for how this is going to sound. I just went over to Absolutepunk.net and saw this was posted there - it's amazing how much people are giving them shit for combining different influences. Personally, I'm sure I'll like whatever they do with their sound, they always find a way to kick ass.

Hahah good guesses on the title too, Mark. I could see something like CATASTROPHIC popping up, maybe.

And this comes from the same person who said it's going to be poppy.
    /me shrugs
I'm not sure I understand what the hell chester means when he talks anymore, But if the report that "qwerty" is one of the lower quality songs they're preparing.. I don't think I'll be disappointed. Hey, I even liked Reanimation and Meteora.

Large pig monsters talking about cutting things, concept albums about rockstars, and mind-expanding 23 minute long art rock masterpieces coming from Linkin Park? I doubt it. :p

It's cool that they're changing it up.
I'll probably listen to the album.
