Tell me what you think. Dear Santa, This Christmas, instead of asking for you to give ME something, I'm asking you to give EVERYONE something. Now, you may be asking, what could you possibly give to everyone? Well, here's what I want you to do. First, look in your Bible. Tell me, does it say anywhere that Jesus was born on December 25th? No. Good. Now, look around you. What do you see? CHRISTMAS CARDS, made by companies with no other way to make money this time of year. CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS that have been up since February of this year. Is this what Jesus' life was about? Giving everyone things, decorating your house with a TREE, and LIGHTs, and ORNAMENTS? A fat man in a suit who really doesn't symbolize much? Well, I mean, you could in fact symbolize something, if Jesus was fat. No, Jesus' life was about redemption. So, this year, I want you to give everyone a REALITY CHECK. That's what we need more than an HDTV, a new DIGITAL CAMERA, or an IPOD. We need to remember that, even if we don't believe in Jesus, we were meant to celebrate his life, and the fact that he sacrificed himself for us. We don't need to commercialize the life of a man, and give gifts just to give gifts. We need to do that during the year, not during one day. The WHOLE YEAR. If you feel like giving someone a LAPTOP, give it to them then, not six months later. Give them a gift when you want to, not when the calendar tells you to. That's all, Liam Smith, Age 7
I actually wrote that as a continuation of an assignment in which I had to comment on today's world, and the commercialization of certain aspects of our lives. The original thing is longer, but I wanted to write a little piece on what I've noticed about Christmas, especially considering that day after tomorrow is Christmas.
I like the format. I wrote something similar in my English class about a week ago, only it was about ending my writer's block for Christmas. But, I think you could maybe have made it look a little bit more like a seven-year-old wrote it.
