    Here's a transcript of a final offer from NHL commissioner Gary Bettman to NHLPA executive director Bob Goodenow to end the ongoing NHL lockout of it's players;

    With the NHL Players Association budging on their strict stance about a salary cap, and the NHL reforming their deal by adding a few million to a salary cap for the players, both sides seem to be conforming. Maybe there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Here's hoping.

    I bet 90% of you didn't know the NHL was locking out their players. :lol:

    It's incredibly frustrating and I'd rather they cancelled the season now and get something permanent done that would save the game for good. How any sport can survive without a salary cap is beyond me.

    Well, it's a good thing that's an opinion, however inaccurate it may be.

    There isn't a faster, more intense, more physical sport out there. If Americans would just give the game a chance and watch how thrilling it can be, there'd be a lot more fan support in the US. I don't know what's more exciting than a crunching body check or an end to end rush.

    As a big hockey fan, I think it sucks that season has been locked out. However, I think this season is already lost(28 games is not a season in my eyes) so i say come to a deal and then start out again next year.

    I really miss Oilers hockey :( . Screw that watching the Farm Team.

    But I think this season is done, as much as I hate saying it. I just hope they can resolve something before the 05-06 season.

    Thats because 90% of them aren't Canadian :lol:

    Gary Bettman should be kicked out. He's the reason there is no play. And just in case you were wondering, no matter what, there's no war there will be a season this year. You can't play something like 20 games and then goto the playoffs. It's not fair.

    I don't want NHL to start! It would spoil all European leagues. Most of European teams rely on NHL players now!

    Well it's been decided... no more hockey.
    I just hope they figure out a solution to this, and fast, before they decide to cut any more seasons.
    Now I gotta find something to fill up my nights of watching Leaf games :(
    (I agree with Todd. Fuck.)

    Well, I'm pissed and relieved at the same time.

    I'm pissed that they couldn't find a resolution in five months, but I'm relieved they're not having a twenty-eight game season followed by playoffs.

    To me, this is both Gary Bettman's and Bob Goodenow's fault. It's not one side over the other. For one thing, the players are getting overpaid and the game is being marketed wrong in the US. Ticket prices are too high and the game is getting slower due to obstruction. The average salary is $1.8 million, which is asinine, considering it was less than 600,000 in the 1994-95 season, ten years ago. Both sides conceded on the small issues and didn't focus on the big ones, such as the necessary salary cap. It's nice to see the league and NHLPA finally agree yesterday a cap was needed, but it's really too bad they couldn't agree on numbers. It was a damn 6.5 million dollar per team difference. Man. If only they had agreed to this a month ago and haggled to something in between.

    I'm glad they didn't come to a deal. Imean these players are becoming such babies it's not even funny. Honestly I Bob Goodenow has these played possesed into beleiving he is right. But i mean the bottom line is 2/3 of the teams last year lost money and the NHL lost roughly 300 million dolalrs. They need to reach an agreement that includes a hard cap and the players taking a salary rollback.. If they were to accept the 42.5 million cap there would have been four teams over the cap and two right on the brink. Thats after they do the 24% salary rollback. To me that is more than fair enough. Now instead of reaching a deal due to compromise to salvage an NHL season hopefully they will continue to tlak and come out with the right deal that they need.
