Which direction do you think microsoft will go with the 8th windows? Will it be more like vista to 7 or nt to xp, where the kernel was kept mostly intact, and the changes were mostly improvements, or will they overhaul the kernel like 9x to nt ? I think they will need to do some pretty substantial feature adding to convince people to upgrade from 7, but I don't know if they will risk another disaster (like pretty much every windows OS that had a new kernel). The pattern seems to be: entirely new OS with problems then one or more versions with less problems, then another entirely new idea, etc.. So will the 8th windows be a whole new overhaul, or just an improved vista/7?
Entirely new. Vista sucks and Windows 7 reminds me too much of how bad Vista was, even though all the problems are gone now.
I would hope for a whole new one. Build from the ground up like Snow Leopard. Apparently Windows Vista was so slow because of all the old coding from the older systems.
Windows Vista is so crap, it had to be taken off the shelves three times because of their inability to conduct a feasibility study right. I must admit all the new Windows systems are so confusing, I was on my mother-in-law's new laptop with up to date everything on it, and I hate the way it looks, the way it leads you in fucking circles etc. Bring back the old start menu with new and improved features that don't lead you around in circles like the new Windows tend to do.
XP rules, Windows 7 is awesome, and personally, I've been using Vista on one of my computers for over a year now, and I've never had any problems whatsoever. I think there's no need for new Windows for at least next 4-5 years.
I agree, although I think that when that times comes it should be totally new and coded from the ground up.
It took me ten minutes, instead of two, to tell her that she had to 1) Register her MS Word, so go and buy it 2) Already found out, that she had bought it and wasn't taking the code (I tried 5 times so don't say I didn't try), therefore resulting in me telling her to get a more reliable system that isn't full of glitches. 3) Get a refund on the software and laptop completely.
Windows Cista was built from the ground up which is why it was really crap. It needed to be tweaked, polished etc. They fixed it with Windows 7. The next Windows OS will have similar features that the new Windows Live Messenger Beta such as the "swooshing" text and image fade-ins and the fact that it has a "social" area in the left. The next Windows will have flying in text and images and have modules/gadgets that auto connect to news feeds and facebook feeds and stuffs. Well that's what I think and want.
Windows 7 is extremely efficient for doing everything I want to do on a computer. Windows 8? I can't imagine, with the trend potentially being moving toward cloud computing, you could see that come into effect. Though to be honest, I couldn't even really fathom a guess at Windows 8, guess time will tell.
Windows 7 was great. The best Windows yet no doubt. But I've turned to the dark side. I've been enjoying my Macbook Pro for about 3 months. To me it's like Windows 7 without the bugs. But I understand that Windows 7 has it's uniqueness but for my purposes it's Mac OS all the way.
I've had Windows 7 since it came out, and my computer hasn't had any bugs yet. Just get Avast and you'll never have problems.
Any system is stable, OSX or Windows, so long as you don't do stupid things with your computer like go to suspicious sites and download shit. Also try to keep yourself up to date with what people report in terms of bugs.
