    In a recent interview with Spin, Mike Shinoda has given the fans a massive update on the progress of the as-yet-untitled fourth album by saying that work on the new record is halfway finished. Mike has also confirmed that legendary music producer Rick Rubin, whose production credits include albums by Metallica, Jay-Z and Red Hot Chili Peppers, has been working with the band on the follow up to 2007's Minutes To Midnight and that Rubin will once again have a producer's credit on a Linkin Park album:

    "Spin: Tell us about the new album."

    "Well, Rick Rubin is producing it. I'd say we're about halfway done. I'm really happy with what we have so far. We're having a ton of fun in the studio. We really want to do something special and unique for the next record -- we want to redefine the band. I feel like on Hybrid Theory we wanted to introduce ourselves to the world with a certain sound. Then on [2003's] Meteora we were trying to show that we weren't a fluke and we could do the sound that made us successful a second time. By the time we got to [2007's] Minutes to Midnight, we wanted to break down that sound and go outside its confines. Now that we've done that, we feel like we can do anything.
    "

    This is sure to whet the appetites of all Linkin Park fans around the world as we all wait anxiously to hear what the band are cooking up!

    Its shaping up to be better than Canadian bacon. Some of us have high expectations, but they could go up and down as we get closer. I hope the name of the album continues this theme of reshaping and pushing the limits for the band's identity to grow. Who knows though, maybe the concept-album idea is still afloat.

    It's explained in announcements lol.

    And this news makes me happy. I always liked Mike's sampling and experimentation and to hear he's using his MPC again heavily gives me high hopes for this album.

    Please LP, don't let me down! :).

    The general gist I got from just scanning the titles of the comments was that some were unhappy with Rick Rubin being on board and others thought the band is taking too long.

    Personally, I don't think there's a better choice than Rick, to have the band be more creative. He helped LP get out of their 'we must do the same sound as Hybrid Theory' mentality, and made them try new things. Now the band can really experiment, now that they erased any previous barriers with MTM.

    And so what if they're taking a while. I'd rather have an album that is their best work than a rush job that sounds like shit. :lol:

    I'd like to challenge the band to make an album that in all it's entirety doesn't contain the words 'pain', 'lies' or 'trust' or any variation of those words.

    I'm super stoked about hearing the new album but it's time LP really focused on some powerful messages as apposed to teeny lyrics (even if most of those teeny lyrics are pretty damn good).

    I really hope LP don't bring out the thesaurus for their next album, though, just saying. It'd be too fake.. it's just not them. This is going to be their best work yet, I feel. I don't think that 'pain', 'lies' and 'trust' are teeny, I think they're universal human emotions and themes.

    Pain, lies, and trust are cop-out words. They should have a "forbidden word board" in their writing room that has those three words smack dab in the middle.

    I agree to a certain extent but at the same time those words are simply overused in LP songs. I just want the band to mix it up a little. I love LP's lyrics but almost all the songs seem to be about the same old thing.

    The thing I love about songs like Shadow Of The Day and The Little Things Give You Away, which just so happen to be the two songs of MTM that sound least like older LP, is that the lyrics break loose of the traditional lyrical themes the band have been known for. They really only scraped the surface of possbility with MTM which is why I think that if LP get it right with this next album it could be their best yet.

    @Andrea: Thanks. ^_^
