Certainly would like to see the band pull off a strong online marketing effort that's really, um, relevant to the music and which is more than just a means to distract fans for a bit while the release is being prepared Mm. An album cover that descends upon the viewer somehow would be new ... :*
I got also the 100 euro MTM deluxe edition 14 days later... so I just bought the album AGAIN when it came out (after 4 years waiting!). I was a huge addict of LP collection, but then I stopped when in 2011 I had to sell precious pieces for money urges (such as the EP, the Deluxe Edition itself, and more...) but still got my Grey Daze copy... for now.
Oh my God. If I had any of those and had to sell them, it would feel like selling one of my organs. You have gut, man.
I'm thinking it will be one of these "AR" (alternate reality) things places are doing now, where if you put the album art in front of a webcam it shows something different. Since that in particular has been done before, maybe they'll have the thing that appears be animated. Who knows.
That would be great.. The AR has been done before but I've never seen it done for an album.. I remember the Assassin's Creed II teasers with the symbols we had to print and show to the webcam to see some images, it was cool. But since it's LP I think they'll do something more elaborated.
Exciting news. Hopefully the album cover will be better than MTM's and ATS'. Both of those were pretty ordinary.
I liked the A Thousand Suns cover a lot personally, but it's hard for me to just take into account just the cover when talking about artwork. I consider the whole package the art, and I think ATS is their best presented work to date IMO. I expect good things from the new work. I expect a lot of colour, muted and bright, geometric shapes, digital and traditional based materials fused together to create something seductive. Paired with the "online component" and "tech elements" mentioned in the build to the new album, I'm excited.
I wasn't too fond of the ATS artwork (as a whole, including the album cover). The color scheme was too muted and the designs were overly glitchy. I think they could've done more with it.
That's what I thought too. But oh well, anything to keep us busy while waiting is more than enough for me. Also, I'm assuming some of this online-promotional-viral-puzzle-marketing-whatever it is, is going to start fairly shortly to unlock pieces of Burn It Down. maybe that'll be a test run for the real deal.
I can agree that I could be something that has been done. I mean, I think it's way too much effort to grab an idea and do something completely out of scratch. Maybe the "new" element could be in the approach they give to whatever art technique/ tool they're using.
