i've had this computer for like seven years now and its pretty useless now lol. before i go on i hope there isnt a thread like this one, but if there is just delete this one. my dad wants to update it for a better one and he wants my opinion on which one to buy for a replacement. i know very little when it comes to computers so i thought i'd ask you guys. the only thing is that i has to have a large memory because he has a family history program which he wants to use and i would like some space for mp3s and stuff. what would you suggest we should get? any special places to go? nothing majorly expensive just something decent so we can get the most out of it. thanks for your help JJ
If you are to buy a brand new preset computer (with all the hardware and software installed) then I believe the prices will be pretty similar throughout stores. How much are you willing to do with the new computer? Will you do a lot of gaming? editing? just want it fast?
The most memory you're going to need is probably 1-2GB. You're really not going to need it much, unless you're a hardcore gamer. Next, you'll want a good graphics card. ATI's x800 is pretty good. Then if you want a good graphics gaming card, step up the the x1800. And yes, I prefer/recommend ATI. You'll want a good cpu, since everything's starting to go into 64-bit, I'd suggest getting something that's 64-bit. Such as the AMD Athlon 64 series. 64 FX if you're a gamer, of course. I don't know so much about motherboards, so I can't really recommend anything there. Same goes for hard drives. Off the top of my head, I think it was Creative that makes good quality sound cards? 'Think that's right...
If your willing to wait till the end of the year the new version of windows is out. Talk to me on msn if you want to go over anything. Think you'll want a harddrive of about 100Gb or more should easily store all your LP tracks and everything else.
Not to mention spyware, adware and shitware. And hardware that randomly doesn't work... Right now, I'm running: AMD Athlon 64 FX-57 2GB DDR400 (PC3200) RAM (Corsair) ATi Radeon X1800 PCI-E (512MB) SB Audigy 2 sound card (you don't need one, but it helps) ...and the rest is menial shit. Put it together myself, so it didn't cost much.
For someone with a system like they have now, all that gear's going to be crazy high in price. "The most memory you're going to need is probably 1-2GB. You're really not going to need it much, unless you're a hardcore gamer." You're going to need around 2 for next gen windows and apps. "Next, you'll want a good graphics card. ATI's x800 is pretty good. Then if you want a good graphics gaming card, step up the the x1800. And yes, I prefer/recommend ATI." For a non gamer.. 6800GT. " I don't know so much about motherboards, so I can't really recommend anything there. Same goes for hard drives." ASrock ULI motherboard... something with agp and pci-e
"You're going to need around 2 for next gen windows and apps." Was it really that much? I thought they said 1GB? "For a non gamer.. 6800GT." Mm, right. That's what the model number was, couldn't recall it atm.
Well, i wouldnt go for a 6800GT, maybe a 6600 would do. It'd depends on you but w/e you'd like: stock awsomeness or Oc'ing it to a 6800 and saving some money while almost breaking your warrenty
Shitware For the motherboard: Just make sure (if you are indeed buying a motherboard) that the socket number matches on the motherboard and on the CPU (if you are buying them separately)
It's a highly technical term. Dell exhibits "seagull support" - - they mostly do nothing, but periodically their product takes a shit on your head.
lol, dell even sells malfunctioning mouse pads that are too shiny causing optical mouses to respond incorrectly
