In a recent interview with BBC, Gerard Way shed some light on My Chemical Romance's new album: http://news.bbc.co.uk/newsbeat/hi/newsbeat/newsid_7865000/7865678.stm I'm cautiously optimistic about this. I have a strange love/hate relationship with MCR, and i'm not sure which side the new album will fall on. The Black Parade will always have a special place with me, because it has sentimental value attached to it for me, but listening to it from a purely objective standpoint, i've found that i've sort of grown out of it. If the band can mature somewhat, then this could be awesome, but we'll have to see.
TBP was great at first, their best record, but I feel the same way as you; it really doesn't do much for me bar a few tracks. The part about a late '09 release was pretty much known but it's great to have it confirmed, I guess. If this new raw sound is anything like Desolation Row, I'll like it.
I'm actually hoping for something slightly Smashing Pumpkins-esque. Slightly theatrical, but very raw and intense and rocking. Considering that the band is very influenced by SP, it's not too much of a stretch, I think.
Source is MTV.com. I think it's really cool that they're stripping down for this album. It really shows, not only in the cover of "Desolation Row" (which BTW, has entered my playlist. It's not a bad song), but the video as well. They've gone away from all of the costumes and stuff and while it was cool to do that, now it's time to step away from that and it sounds like they're going to make a "kick to the teeth, fuck you" album, which by MCR's standards, should be fantastic. I personally can't wait.
