True statement, but hypocritical coming from him. Biting the hand that feeds, IMO.

My Chemical Romance is not emo. Good for him for speaking up even though it won't accomplish anything.

It would be biting the hand that feeds if they ever intended to be scene, which they did not.

Everything about this band was influenced by the horror flicks they watched as they were kids. Their image, their sound and even the art on their albums was intended to be a representation of this, so therefore I'll say it once and I'll say it again:

My Chemical Romance were and still are (despite their changed sound) HORRORCORE and not EMO. In all honesty it was the shitty media outlets that made everyone think this band was emo, and My Chemical Romance are far greater than the bands everyone tries to loop them in with.

One quick listen to their albums will prove this to people.

I'd hate to be a term Nazi, but horrorcore was a term coined for hardcore rap that dealt with themes from horror movies. Now, unless My Chemical Romance went gangsta on me, they are not horrorcore.

    God, I hate genres.

Exactly... I think people should just get over the genre that's called Emo.

Can anyone honestly tell me they still know what it is exactly?

It's just another label to sell music to the masses if you ask me and I think MCR are still the main product of that label.

I'd like to say an "amen" to both what Gerard said, and this.

I think it's very smart what they've done here.

I mean, they've ridden on the back of something for ages knowing that it will help them gain popularity. Then, when they've reached a point where they don't need it anymore, they've dropped the term and lashed out against it.

I don't care what anyone says, if it weren't for the 'emo' genre, MCR either wouldn't exist right now or, more likely, wouldn't be where they are in the industry. To me, it seems stupid for them to bash the thing that made them.

Genres. What the fuck good do they do?

I do not think MCR is emo-music. No, no, no.

Dave, why is it you always beat me to exactly what I was gonna say?

To be honest I don't care what anyone else says, pre-Black Parade MCR were emo. The look, the theme of their albums and a large section of their songs were definatly emo. Why all of a sudden they've launched a scathing attack on the emo nation is quite beyond me considering they're one of the main bands in the genre, whether they accept that or not.

I'll agree with him though. Emo is a damn disgrace to music and it's stained the entire rock genre. The thing is, it shouldn't be him saying that.

MCR are pulling what LP did with Nu Metal.

Ride the Nu-Metal craze, become one of the biggest bands in the world off it, tour with other bands in the genre, make a thrid CD that breaks free from that genre, then turn around and bash that genre to holy hell.

But at least Nu Metal had some form of a basis to it, emo on the other hand seems to have no definition really at all. I've heard people say Linkin Park, Bright Eyes, and AFI are all emo. If any genre can contain those three bands, and not be called "Rock" I really think it is so vague it has become meaningless.

I don't care what you call them, bands like MCR and LP have survived because they have more raw talent than any of the shitty Nu-Metal or emo bands they were lumped in with. Funny thing is both of these bands have almost as many haters as they do fans. It's jealousy if you ask me.

    I completely agree.

I also agree with MCR that emo is just stupid. I mean, in the emo genre there is AFI, MCR, FOB, and Panic at the disco. Is there any similarities at all between those four bands other then the fact that there rock? Okay, FOB and Panic! sound slightly similar, but even they're different.

So, I agree with Gerard, and Derek.

THANK YOU. It's not about 'riding coat-tails' or being a spokesperson for a certain genre, LP and MCR are still around because they have some talent and musical credibility.

If riding the coat-tails of a certain genre meant being successful after that genre dies, then please tell me what the fuck happened to limpbizkit? Posting myspace blogs and random songs that aren't on new records, to me isn't being popular.

Quoted for truth, that's exactly what I meant with being the product of the label.
