As far as the band are concerned, their songs are already great pop songs. Now more than ever, they're definitely not holding back. They still mention in interviews how they focus on making great songs that sound just as good with just piano or acoustic backing first, before they really get into the studio recording side of things.

And, if you think "Burn It Down" was a successful song, it was nothing compared to "In The End".

That song means something to some of us you know, it has a good message. And it's no more poppy then a lot of LP's ballads.

Roads Untraveled is their worst if you ask me.

The reversed piano in LOATR is one of my favorite parts.

Roads Untraveled? Yeah I know, the lyrics aren't the best, but I still quite like it. Although the "woahs" take a pretty big part in the song, these make it one of the more powerful ballades LP has made, imo.

So if you want more opinions: I prefer Roads Untraveled over LOATR.
Edit: Ok, to be honest, I am not so sure about that anymore, after I just listened to both. :D But I still like RU, the instrumental is wonderful and the transition between calm and loud is powerful.

I love both albums, but I like heavy rock songs better, that's why I prefer THP. If a person likes softer music more, they will probably go with MTM. It's all about tastes here, that's why we see albums from a different perspective. And I agree with Michele here, LOATR for me isn't that great, I prefer any other ballad from LP.

While we're on the subject of pop, anyone think LP quit being pop-centric when Imagine Dragons came along? They've stolen their place in the music world imo.

Lol you're so far off. Sure, Living Things had a couple pop songs, but I would certainly call that album more of a rock album than a pop album. Minutes to Midnight is more of a pop album than Living Things, and even then I wouldn't call Minutes to Midnight a pop record. And Imagine Dragons never "stole" their place in the music industry. They are a pop/rock band made to appeal more to a mainstream crowd, while Linkin Park is a "rock" band (hard to just label them one genre) that appeals to a wide variety of people. I doubt as big of a band such as Linkin Park would get scared off by just one band

Imagin Dragonz has frikkin stolen LPs plaiz in da big Transformaz movie!!!

LP is no pop band anymore, noooooo. :dafuq:

    --

    Radio friendly songs on MtM:
LOATR, SOTD, WID, VD, IP, IB (unsure about the last two), TLTGYA (shortened)

    Living Things:
IMR, BID, IBG, COG, RU, Powerless

So I would say they are roughly equally poppy, but MtM has the potential to be sightly more. (sorry for OT)

Speaking of Germany, Burn It Down was far more successful than In The End. Same with CoG.
Compared to 2014's THP, Living Things played definitely a faaar bigger role in the charts (no wonder, I know).

What started as THP vs MTM turned into "how poppy is Linkin Park?".

There's a difference between radio friendly and pop, though. I would count songs like IMR and IBG as radio friendly, but they are more of rock songs than pop. Same goes for WID, it is very radio friendly but is certainly a rock song.
