Immediately remembered me of We Major. I don't know, something like Dolla or Bloc Party . I don't think this is LP at all, more likely another FM song?
There's not even enough music here to get excited about. All I'm hearing is a beat and a guitar, something that sounds like it's unfinished. But of course, fanboys will eat it up.
#SALTY And yeah, most likely this was a demo created (most likely by Mike) for the new album that the band scrapped but Mike wanted to polish it and add vocals for Fort Minor.
I could ask the same question about any of the songs that the band or just Mike has put out and it would still be a good question.
Going by the Joplin sample and the rap, it's most likely a Fort Minor track or just Mike messing around. Not a new track from the album or a preview of what the album sounds like (they've been ho-hum on that for a reason, obviously), and definitely not "Things In My Jeep" unless Conner4Real (Andy Samberg) decided to go underground rap for a moment in the film.
i think this is most likely a Fort Minor song, doesn't have the feeling the band said the songs on LP7 would have EDIT: it could be a scrapped demo as well
Not going to lie, my first impression of gazing over the lyrics was this was a parody song. Hopefully it's Fort Minor because it's cheesy as hell.
Why would Mike even reveal something from the new album at this point at all? A few weeks ago, literally the last thing we know about the status of the album, is that they don't yet know about the direction they'll be going in. On the other hand it also feels weird that Mike did record this solo track while they are busy in the studio, working on the new album everyday. Not impossible for sure, but I think this makes the track more likely to be a scraped demo in fact, like others already said.
They've still been working on song ideas and developing sounds, even without a defined direction for the album I would guess that he just wanted to give fans a glimpse of what was going on
This post has me wondering again what the heck they sampled that they can't even release it on an LPU track. Not trying to sound mean here, but is the artist dead now? Is a record company really that stingy about it? I understand why we haven't heard the song but to not know any information at all about it other than that it has a sample is weird to me.
To be fair, they got a bunch of stuff cleared for Reanimation. The Spotify reference certainly sounds like a tongue-in-cheek thing to me though... I'd honestly be shocked if this is anything BUT the Lonely Island track. Yeah Andy's character is a pop star in the movie, but pop stars singing hooks on hip-hop tracks is far from unheard of... They never cleared the sample in advance. It's a lot easier to reach out to an artist's management and go "Hey, we sampled this for a new track and want to release it" than it is to go "Hey, we sampled your music on a track we recorded 15 years ago and never bothered to tell you, but we want to release it now anyway" The former is the professional way of handling things, the latter comes across as a dick move.
