After months of speculation as to whether Mike or Chester will be releasing solo albums, Linkin Park emcee Mike Shinoda has confirmed to MTV.com that he will be coming out with a solo CD in the near future.

During the MTV interview at a recent event to promote Music For Relief, Mike Shinoda gave information that he will playing the instruments and creating the music, as well as producing the tracks that will be appearing on the upcoming CD.

Furthermore, in addition to the previously speculated guest artists (Black Thought, Common, etc.) Mike has revealed that Kenna will be making a guest appearance on the record as well.

For an interview from Mike Shinoda regarding the cd please go to Linkin Park's MTV page click on any video (the Joe interviews are recommended) and scroll to find "Mike Shinoda on solo album" in the list of videos found in the bottom right corner of the popup screen.

Further information can be found here: Mike Shinoda Solo Album to be "Rock Free"

Thanks to cindy_lp for the news!

Very, very, underground hip-hop artist. He's actually pretty trippy and doesn't even rap at all. I'm not sure how Mike's gonna fit him on the record and it'll be interesting to see.

The only Kenna song I can remember offhand is "Hellbent" but that's very old school Kenna, he's changed a little since then (he had a new song out last year, just cant remember).

Yea, this will be very interesting to see. Im hoping this doesnt hurt LP's efforts as a band though, but still, having liked mike's style and some of his semi-solo songs like Dedicated and the sorts, Ill surely be waiting for this album :)

I'm not going to lie and say i think this is an awesome thing for the band, but's its not as bad as i thought it was going to be. At least mike is playing instruments, so its not gunna be like he's trying to become a pop star or 50-centerish. I'm still not sure its gunna be great for the image of the band.

Sometimes you have to do what you want to do instead of constantly looking out for what's right and what's wrong for the band.

    I'll be buying this.

    So will I.

And the fact Mike Shinoda said he'll be working with his inspirations/friends and not 'what's hot at the moment' in that interview, proves it's going to be a real hip-hop record. I wouldn't be surprised, if enough effort was put into it, that this would be rated one of the best hip hop records of the past decade.

Mike has the power to put himself among the ranks of "Illmatic", "Doggystyle", "The Chronic", "2001" and etc. He just needs to work hard and not sacrifice any bit of his creative energy.

I have to say that I support whatever any member of the band decides to do. I like them all, so if they decide to do their own thing, then that's fine with me. I'll support them and promote them any way I can. I think doing the solo thing may help the band by giving them new ideas on what to do. I think Mike is very talented and I'll buy the album to support him.

Edit: Thanks for the credit! :)

It has the potential to be the best hip hop record of [insert year here], but I don't think it has the potential to be a real classic, like Illmatic or The Chronic.

Maybe it does, time will have to tell though.

Well of course not, because they really brought hip-hop to the masses.

But if he doesnt write a shitty record, this could have staying power. I like a record that I can listen to and still like three years later. Such an example is Hybrid Theory.

Hmmm...does this mean no new Linkin Park album in 2006?

No. That means no new LP record TILL 2006. It's likely Mike's CD will be released this year. As you heard from Mike it's kinda been 6 months in the making.

Not sure if i'd get the cd, but I think this will be a very interesting project. Plus Mike is a very creative person, so the cd will be very unique and different, but I don't know. I'm not much of a hip-hop fan.
