Mike recently updated his blog with new information regarding the new album and what we can expect from LPU9 this year. He confirms that the new song to feature on the next LPU CD was recorded during the Minutes to Midnight sessions.

"It contains 8 previously unreleased demos from Hybrid Theory, Meteora, and Minutes To Midnight, plus a NEW, UNRELEASED LINKIN PARK SONG recorded during the MTM sessions."

He also spoke of a new track he's been working on for the new album, with the working title "Chicken Basket". Here's what he had to say on the song.

"I did a song where the music sounds like Santogold (or Santigold, if you like) meets Postal Service meets At The Drive In or something. Very weird...but even weirder, the vocals are crazy--I asked our engineers what they thought it sounded like, and the responses I got were things like "Peter Gabriel" and "Huey Lewis, in a really good way." Four-part harmonies that ebb and flow with the track. I feel like I'm on drugs when I'm listening to it. It's tentatively called "Chicken Basket." Next week, we're all going to get together and listen to everything and vote on stuff, to see how progress is going. I'll let you guys know how it goes..."

You can check out the full post over at his blog!

    Thanks to Naplam Terror!

Mike's descriptions worry me. Or maybe they just don't make a whole lot of sense.

That chicken better be breaded with some good shit.

As long as it's interesting, they can do whatever the hell they want imo.

People are getting freaked out by the suggestions of what other bands/singers it's gonna sound like. Point with LP for me is that they can do anything. So it doesn't matter who they sound like, as long as they do it well.

    Within reason of course

I'm not phased at all in terms of what it ends up sounding like, really. I dunno, it just caught me a tiny bit off-guard coming from them. Then again, maybe Mike is just trying too hard to say "Hey guys we didn't rewrite our last album this time!"

I can't wait to feel like I'm on drugs too, Mike.

I feel like I'm on drugs just reading Mike's song descriptions.

Yeah, At the Drive-in and The Postal Service? So is this Mike's experimental, drug-induced heroin and reckless self-mutilation album?

To be honest, the song could have Mike playing the banjo with his balls and Joe playing the pine-cone on his ass and I'd still respect the direction they're taking with their music.

It would be so apt for Brad to still have long hair right now.

That would definitely be an interesting track, maybe kind of like Session or Cure For The Itch.

I think the only reason Joe would be using that pine-cone on his ass is for a "cure for the itch".

;) Exactly. Sometimes the balls need a little scratchin', too. Banjo strings work real well.

'It's like Hybrid Theory because it's like our own collision of sounds, ya know, that's like what we do, but it's not like rap rock it's like KFC meets Dairy Queen meets Taco Bell so we're calling it Chicken Basket, but you can still tell it's a Linkin Park record, you'll see.'
