I can't see them sending it until after the MoH Trailer has been released. If they send it out before then, that pretty much ruins the exclusive deal they have with EA to premier the track in their trailer, and I'm sure the trailer will miss out on a shit ton of hits as a result, which kind of ruins the point of the partnership. I say a few hours after the trailer has been released will be the deadline.

god, the comments on that page are laughable

My favorite ones that i read are (not posting names):

(this guy just seems to uber fail since he thinks its the actual song)
(this guy seems to fail for thinking that LP used a vocoder in the song. LP =\= T-Pain)
Wow, so much butthurt about the new song, and so many comments to laugh at

This would however, make LP liars in saying that those who pre-order get to hear it before anyone else. I guess we'll see though.

I'm going to give you a good example of why a change was needed with this band. Below is a summary of a conversation I just had in my work's breakroom:

Me: "Well if you really wanna listen to angry music you can listen to some Linkin Park *laughs*"

Co-Worker: "Linkin Park are not pure rock music. They're pop-rock. And I say this as someone who owns all of their CDs and actively enjoys their music."

Me: "They do have SOME heavy songs."

CW: "yeah but my biggest problem with them is how even with Minutes To Midnight, their songs still sounded the same. I mean the song they wrote for Transformers 2 sounded exactly the same as the song they featured in the first movie [What I've Done]. I feel they aren't original enough anymore, and don't take risks like they used to."

If a random person feels that way, who's to say the general public doesn't feel the same way? LP needed to evolve. They were starting to lose respect by sounding the same all of the time.

Not really, we don't know if it's going to be the full song, or the majority. Plus with the trailer having live action and gameplay scenes, some of it may not have the music playing at all, and if it does it will be in the background whilst the actors talk over it I imagine. I think LP can still get away with saying "hear it before anyone else" because it will be the first time it doesn't include helicopter sound effects, gunfire and explosions.

Well for me it depends on the band if the fans would respect it when they will change their sound or not !!

For example: Slayer, Megadeth, ACDC, and countless other bands who have been playing since 3+ decades havent changed their sound much but still fans respect them alot!

With all due respect, as much as I'm a big fan of at least 2 of those groups...they never were genre-breakers to begin with. Their sound was similar to other acts (in their genre) of that time, but what made them stand out was their songwriting abilities.

Linkin Park are different. The band was thought of as genre-breakers with Hybrid Theory, and so many music critics (and even some fans) expected a different record than what we got with Meteora. They didn't expect LP to pull a Nickelback/Disturbed and put out the same record as they did the first time. When LP came out sounding exactly the same with songs that stole song structures from Hybrid Theory (Papercut matches Hit The Floor), it was depressing and it let a lot of people down. In case you were not here before MTM, a lot a people were pleading with the band to change and using MTM as their 'make or break' album, which is what made it so ironic that MTM is now criticized so heavily. The band did what the fans asked, and yet they got criticized for it.

Going back to Hybrid Theory would be career suicide. Linkin Park are not going to go back to HT just to please the small percentage of fans that refuse to grow up with the band. And like it or not, the percentage IS small. Most people have grown up, but sadly it appears some just refuse to realize those times are over. The band aren't whiny 20 year olds with self esteem issues anymore. They've grown up, and they're not going to sacrifice their musical integrity to go back to an album that was already 5-6 years old by the time it came out due to some songs being from Xero. It's not going to happen, and if it ever does I will resign from LPA. I want the band to be ADULTS not KIDS.

45-50 sounds good to me. I can't wait for this thing to get out already. Its going to be hard to keep from checking out leaks if and when they hit.

I think this new album will bring in a lot of new fans just like MTM did. Like you said Derek, there's only a small percentage that want HT still and I believe LP will bring in more new fans than lose old ones.

I've heard people on the radio make that same comment about New Divide. "It sounds like What I've Done". And you know what? They are probably right for the most part. Thankfully, this band most definitely is writing more original and mature music. We aren't going to see another "Papercut/Hit the Floor" or "What I've Done/New Divide." If we get songs like that I would be shocked.

In LP's defense about the New Divide thing, they were making the song for the movie. I'm sure if it would have been a random single that wasn't meant for anything, it would have been a completely different song. They succeeded because ND fits Transformers 2 very well!

True. It wasn't until MTM came out that I truly became a fan of the band (The only songs I liked were Faint, Numb and Breaking The Habit by the time), and wasn't until I saw their talents to create different music to make me a big fan.

Thank you! MTM showed that this band isn't just a one trick pony who keeps putting the same album out every 4 years. That's why I like it.
