Today is the two-year anniversary of the release of Linkin Park's sophomore album, 'Meteora'. Let's put the last two years into perspective; February 03 -- 'Meteora' tour cycle begins. -- "Somewhere I Belong" is released as the first single. March 03 -- The album is released and debuts at number one in fourteen different countries, selling well over a million copies worldwide. -- In the US alone, 830,000 copies were sold in the first week, making it Linkin Park's first number one album in America ('Hybrid Theory' peaked at #2). April 03 -- Sales figures of 264,000 copies catapult 'Meteora' to platinum status after it's second week of release, and helps the album secure a consecutive week atop the Top 200 Albums tallies. -- "Somewhere I Belong" hits the top of both the Modern Rock and Mainstream Rock charts in the US. The single held the top spot on the Modern Rock charts for five weeks. May 03 - September 03 -- "Faint", the second single from the album, is released in May. -- 'Meteora' is designated double-platinum in the states. -- "Faint" hits number one on the charts in July and stays there for six weeks until the beginning of September. October 03 - January 04 -- "Numb" is released to radios. -- 'Meteora' certified triple-platinum in the states. -- "Numb" hits number one on the Modern Rock charts in November and stays there for thirteen weeks until late-January. -- "Numb" also stays atop the Mainstream Rock charts for three straight weeks. -- Linkin Park set a Billboard Modern Rock chart record for most top-charting singles in one year; three, with "Somewhere I Belong", "Faint", and "Numb". -- "From The Inside" released to Europe only. February 04 - March 04 -- "Lying From You" released as radio-only single in US. -- "Lying From You" hits number one on the Modern Rock charts in mid-March and stays there for three straight weeks. -- 'Meteora' designated four-times platinum. April 04 - September 04 -- "Breaking The Habit" released in May. -- "Breaking The Habit" hits number one on the Modern Rock charts in mid-August and stays there for three weeks until early-September. -- 'Meteora' tour-cycle ends. In all, six singles have been released from 'Meteora', four of them being worldwide releases ("Somewhere I Belong", "Faint", "Numb", "Breaking The Habit"), one of them being a European release ("From The Inside"), and the last one being a US-radio-only single ("Lying From You"). All singles released in the US went on to hit number one on the Billboard Modern Rock charts for at least three weeks apeice. In total, Linkin Park singles from 'Meteora' were at number one on the charts for an amazing thirty weeks. Estimates place worldwide sales totals for 'Meteora' at nearly ten million copies!
