After Deadline's report, Emily VanCamp has confirmed herself that she's in Cap 3. http://www.ew.com/article/2015/05/0...a?hootPostID=dcdba80f1ee372bc65931314432fa0ef Anyone wondering why Sam Jackson and Cobie Smulders hasn't been announced as part of the cast yet? Not even rumors? Also, new cameras http://marvel.com/news/movies/24583...o_be_filmed_using_the_imaxarri_digital_camera
Well, I decided to make the thread because we've been getting a lot of information on Phase III and it seemed silly to keep cluttering up the Phase II thread with it all. That, and I was bored and couldn't sleep. I'm sure they'll be added to the casts some time soon. But that's also why I only listed confirmed casts for each of the films in the first post. You can be damn sure the other Guardians will be appearing in Guardians of the Galaxy II, but right now, only Chris Pratt has been confirmed to be returning, so he's the only one I've listed. The Dark World was decent, but I think the Thor movies have suffered from bad directors and weak villains, aside from Loki. But Ragnarok has the potential to be the most important film in the MCU prior to Infinity War, based solely on the scope of its story from the comics.

There needs to be a scene – even if it's a deleted scene from whatever movie in which it might happen – in which Martin Freeman's character says, "No shit, Sherlock," followed by Iron Man and Doctor Strange giving each other a knowing look. I know the joke's been made before, but now it's possible to set it up in such a hilarious way that I hope it ends up happening, even if it's a deleted scene.
Civil War will make more money than Age of Ultron. That Spider-Man acquisition was huge. The cast is so loaded. And yeah, I thought both Thor's movies were poor. Loki isn't a good villain. Dark World was way below average.
Kevin Fiege has said that Marvel plans Thor: Ragnarok to have a Winter Soldier-level like impact to the MCU. I liked the first Thor movie, but Dark World was the weakest MCU entry ever, despite its fantastic final battle. It's only because of Chris Hemsworth as Thor that I like Thor a lot more than Captain America. It's because of The Dark World (and Cap 1, which I didn't really like) that I'm skeptic about Chris Markus & Stephen McFeely handling Infinity War. Sure, Winter Soldier is fantastic, but look at the rest of their cinematography; it's mostly inconsistent. They wrote the three Narnia movies (the first two I liked), Cap 1, Thor 2, Pain & Gain (that Michael Bay movie) and two apparently good movies that I haven't seen - The Life and Death of Peter Sellers and You Kill Me. They also developed the Agent Carter series and wrote its pilot. I had problems with Winter Soldier too. If they get Civil War right, I might have optimism for Infinity War.
Personally, as much as I champion The Incredible Hulk because of its fantastic characters, I think it's tied with Iron Man 2 as the weakest MCU films, followed by Thor and then The Dark World. Yes, the writers were a big reason why The Dark World was as wonky as it was, but Alan Taylor, the director, had a bigger hand in the overall presentation of the movie than you'd think. He brought his experience directing Game of Thrones episodes over to The Dark World, and you could tell. I think the biggest problem with both Thor films is their presentation of the villains: Loki was decent in Thor, but I felt like the Destroyer was dealt with far too easily, even with Thor having just regained his powers; and, in The Dark World, I felt as though Malekith wasn't developed enough, and Kurse wasn't a big-enough part of the story – Loki, on the other hand, was even better than he was in Thor, even though he wasn't a "villain" until the end of the film. Ultimately, I thought the writing for both films was good, but the directing was what weakened both films. Kenneth Branagh shouldn't've directed Thor, and Alan Taylor shouldn't've directed The Dark World. I've got no idea who would've been better, but I think Terry Gilliam would've been an amazing choice for either or both, and I'm holding out hope that he directs Ragnarok. As far as Markus and McFeely are concerned, I'm glad they wrote Civil War, and I'm even more glad they're coming back to write Infinity War. They've got experience in writing Captain America (all three films) – and, as far as I'm concerned, The First Avenger is nowhere near as bad as people say it is; in fact, I think it's the strongest origin story in the MCU – as well as Thor, and in writing Civil War, they'll have the experience in writing for a large, ensemble cast, which is what they'll have to deal with for Infinity War. Sure, maybe Infinity War will end up being Cap-centric, or even Cap- and Thor-centric, but I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing, when you consider that Cap's the leader of the Avengers. But at the same time, I think the films they've worked on have been more than good enough, it's just the direction that's brought them down a bit (like The Dark World and perhaps to a lesser extent The First Avenger). I think the consistency's going to be Marvel's strongest asset in having Markus and McFeely writing these films.
Latino-Review's reporting that it's all but official that Asa Butterfield (Ender's Game) will be the new Peter Parker/Spider-Man, although Marvel apparently hasn't made its final decision. Butterfield was on a short list of actors, which also included Tom Holland (In the Heart of the Sea) and Nat Wolff (Paper Towns). It was reported that the actors in consideration for Spider-Man would be testing this week, but Butterfield's apparently the frontrunner for the gig. In any case, it's likely that Marvel announces its new Spider-Man before the end of next week.
As far as The Dark World goes, yes it's problem is the script (not direction). However that isn't Markus & McFeely's fault. Despite getting primary writing credit with Yost, they were only on that film for a few weeks, in between drafts of the Winter Soldier. In actual fact there were half a dozen writers on TDW at one point or another, M&M, Yost, Robert Rodat, Don Payne & even Joss Whedon wrote/rewrote a few scenes. I don't think anyone (Marvel, Taylor, the writers) had a clear vision of what they wanted to do with the sequel, add the "too many cooks in the kitchen" thing and you get TDW. Also, and I don't know how much impact this had but I suspect it is a factor, Don Payne, one of the main writers on the first Thor, died of cancer around the time TDW was filming. Cap1 is one of my favourite MCU films, & I thought Pain & Gain was good, too, certainly the best thing Bay has done in many fucking years.
I hope they can finally make Thor interesting in the new film. The first two films have been utterly terrible.
Our first look at Frank Grillo as Crossbones: https://i.imgur.com/4yJDnwr.jpg Holy shit. edit — I know it's been hours since I made this post and a lot of you've probably seen the picture at this point but I decided to take the picture out of the post for spoiler purposes. I'm sure a few of you don't want anything about the movie spoiled so I'm being nice.
