Thanks for sharing. I'm usually spot on when it comes to any music about to take off but havent been lately. So thank you. I'm a huge fan of Mack! I'll share something with all of you as well. This is one part inspiration and one part humour.

Wow Downtown sounds like Thrift Shop: Bike edition.

I'd say To Pimp A Butterfly [Parody].

And same with Thrift Shop, I really don't like Downtown.

I loved The Heist. I went and saw them in Dallas with my best friend. I don't really like Downtown... I'll give it a few more listens but I don't know. I feel like he's trying a little too hard or something? Oh well, I'll see how the album is. I'm still excited nonetheless.

Haha, I love how structurally and vocally weird Downtown is.
It does sound like a big brother to the Thrift Shop track, while being much less hook driven and formulaic.
    I kind of like it.

The difference between Thrift Shop and Downtown is that Thrift Shop is cohesive and Downtown feels like a mess. I didn't care for it at all and it just comes off as a joke without really intending on being a joke, unlike his songs And We Danced, Castle, Bush Song etc. I just can't take this song seriously.

Uhm. You kind of missed the point, I think.

The song is just pure fun. The lyrics are pretty corny and at times cringeworthy but the production, the bass, the over the top chorus. It just comes together in a nice way.
If Macklemore really wanted this song to be the next Thriftshop, he would had cut at least a minute of the song(it's 5 minutes long) so it would fit in the whole pop formular and be more cohesive lyrically. But that is obviously not what he is going for.
The "incohesivness" makes it funnier - at least in my opinion.

I thought he would do a 180 seeing how overexposed and played out Thrift Shop became. Even he was getting a bit tired of it. So its kind of surprising seeing him go do the exact same thing again and playing it so safe.

    Great track.

    Prediction:
This will be pretty good. Although, not in a commercial sense.

Like its with many of Macklemore's song... the message is good but the execution is blunt with no sense of subtlety. Its like he's beating you over the head with the message.

This is why I can't get into him. His music is so fucking preachy.

With that said, I don't mind this new track. But it's not something I'll listen to again.

Yeah I can see that. I still think he has good intentions though. Just needs to tone down the bluntness with which he delivers.

Bluntness can definitely be a way to convey a message, though. So I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing. He's gonna reach a wider audience by being this blunt. But the side-effect is that it'll sound preachy, so yeah.

Lol I'm like the only person I know who likes Mack for anything besides Thrift Shop and Can't Hold Us. Make The Money is what really sold me on him. But yeah I agree his preachy/liberal/white baptist side does get annoying.
