Old Man Gloom are easily the best simian-themed prog/space metal band in existence.

@Jordan: Isis' new album is called "Wavering Radiant," and it comes out on May 5th. Apparently, Adam Jones from Tool did some work on two of the albums's tracks; that should be cool.

Be warned, "Antenna" sounds nothing like the rest of Cave In's discography.

I think it's easily their most accessible, though.

Ah i got March and May mixed up. Having Adam Jones on a couple tracks sounds pretty cool.

I'm actually not terribly excited about this. Justin played bass on one of the Panopticon songs, but it didn't sound Toolish at all.

For Cave In I would recommend Jupiter for their more prog-type stuff and Until Your Heart Stops for their hardcore. Then there's Perfect Pitch Black which is basically a cross between the two and Antenna which is very melodic rock with some elements of their other styles.

I just finished listening to Jupiter, and it was very good.

I will be checking out more from them soon.

I'm not really a big fan of any of the first/big four thrash metal bands. As influential as they were, there have been much better metal bands since in my opinion.

But I do enjoy Ride The Lightning and Master Of Puppets every now and then.

    +1:lol: churches will do:p

Basically metal is a pretty broad genre in music. Its quite confusing coz the kind of music itself has a lot of subgroups.

    Best Metal Ever:

    Venom
    Black Sabbath
    Judas Priest
    Iron Maiden
    Sepultura
    Metallica
    Slayer

Poison the Well are okay, but I've only ever heard You Come Before You.

They're not great, but not bad. I wouldn't mind seeing them but I'm pretty sure they clash with someone else on the Perth timetable I'd rather see.

Speaking of more hardcore style metal, what are people's opinions of Architects and Johnny Truant (R.I.P)?

JT's first album, In the Library of Horrific Events just slays, and is still one of the most intense and angry albums I own.

I heard Architects are similar and listened to Early Grave and You Don't Walk Away From Dismemberment and was wondering what other people's opinions are/what other Architects songs are worth getting?

Johnny Truant were great and it's terrible that so many good British bands have split up over the past couple of years.

    Architects are also excellent.

I've heard only good things about Johnny Truant, I'll definitely have to check them out.

Also, I agree with Dean. Architects are an amazing band, everyone should definitely give them a listen.

    --------------------------

I'd also like to recommend August Burns Red to anyone who likes Killswitch Engage and their ilk (think a sort of heavier version of KsE). They're definitely one of the best bands to come out of the NWOAHM, in my opinion.

August Burns Red are very good. My favourite metalcore bands at the moment are probably Unearth and Bleeding Through though. The guitarist from Unearth is fucking amazing.

Haste The Day are probably my all time favourite metalcore band though, I love them.

Bleeding Through I'm neither here nor there towards, but Unearth are fantastic. They've probably got some of the best breakdowns I've heard from any metalcore band.

Haste the Day, the less I say about them the better. Sorry

    aww.

I guess they aren't the greatest most brutal most skilled metalcore band, but i think they're good at what they do. Although the whole heavy verse, melodic chorus is becoming very generic nowadays.

Haste The Day at least have some good riffs every now and then.

Bleeding Through albums are just one long breakdown from what I've heard.
