What I think is metal is probably a lot different than what others think, but this goes for any type of genre. I don't really like to categorize any band to a certain genre, unless I were comparing like, Lupe Fiasco to Enter Shikari or something
Metal is like saying " I have a video game." It's pretty ambiguous and you don't know the title or genre, while there could be like 6 different types. except metal has bout 20 of them.
lol pretty much, just don't mix up Swedish Death Metal and Norwegian Black Metal or you might find your house burnt down. Anyway, I just listened to Death discography in chronological order. What an awesome band.
Here's a slightly bigger list. The Dillinger Escape Plan Cancer Bats Cave In (Until Your Heart Stops) Boris Every Time I Die (Hey, Brian Posehn says they're metal) Metallica The Haunted Converge Rolo Tomassi Architechts Genghis Tron Fantomas Mastodon Killswitch Engage Today Is The Day Torche Parkway Drive Between The Buried And Me Trivium Megadeth Deftones (At the bottom because they're probably the furthest from trv kvlt frostbitten NSBM) Melvins (" ") The Locust Charles Bronson Napalm Death Arsonists Get All The Girls Again, a good deal of these lean more towards various kinds of hardcore. I even managed to sneak in a couple of grindcore/powerviolence bands at the end.
Fuck yeah Brian Posehn. lol Napalm Death. lol grindercore. more lulz goregrind. no lulz cybergrind. GTFO Cybergrind. Cybergrind is worse than Crunkmo.
Yeah, a lot of grind bands are basically rubbish but I still enjoy listening to them greatly. As far as cybergrind goes, Genghis Tron's more aggressive tracks aren't always so great but their slower stuff touches on Deftones and Jesu (there's another band I forgot) and is therefore amazing, and Hysterics by Rolo Tomassi is my top album of last year although I'm not sure if they really qualify as cybergrind or are just mathcore with keyboards. Probably isn't much difference either way haha. As for AGATG, see the first line of this post. They aren't very good but I still get a kick out of listening to them. No way is it as bad as crunkmo, though, if you mean what I think you mean (3OH!3 and stuff like that). *adds Melvins and Jesu to previous post*
I'm going to list all the bands I consider to be some form of metal I've got on my computer. I'd prefer if the commentary was kept to a minimum, as far as telling me who is or isn't "metal," since it's a very arbitrary genre. This is going to include post-hardcore, metalcore, and traditional metal, since it's all a form of metal in one way or another. I'm also not going to note which "era" of a band's releases I'm counting as "metal," since that's kind of stupid. There's almost as many sub-genres of metal as there are actual metal bands. Drone, doom, shoegaze, black, death, blackened death, melodic death, power, thrash, groove, flying samurai sepuku surprise, etc.
In case anyone's wondering, the video at the beginning of the "Metal by Numbers" video Dean posted is Chasing Victory, and the song is "Unrequited Love."
Oh wow, i just did a last.fm tag search on cybergrind, and apparently it isn't all shit. BUT I was talking about bands like Preschool Tea Party Massacre and similar sounding bands. Maybe not below Crunkmo, but definitely down there. Timothy: You forgot 'White Metal' that's Black Metal with christian lyrics Seriously, wikipedia Black Metal and it's down the bottom somewhere. Lol Will i've always wondered who that shitty band was.
It's not fair to judge them based on that song (which, admittedly, isn't good). They sound like Underoath during their They're Only Chasing Safety era, actually. So if you liked Underoath around that time, you'd probably like Chasing Victory. *shrug*
To name a few: Absu Acid Bath Agalloch Ahab Akercocke Alchemist Amorphis Anaal Nathrakh Anata Anathema Arcturus Atheist Augury Bloodbath Burnt by the Sun Candlemass Carcass Catamenia Cathedral Cor Scorpii Coroner My Dying Bride In Mourning ......................... This list will go on forever, so I'm going to stop there.
Ah, i guess you're right. But the singer looks like such a tool, compared to Brian at least lol. Nice list DisturbedOne! <3 Agalloch.
I'm not sure whether the clip in "Metal by Numbers" is an actual clip of Chasing Victory performing the song, because I didn't see the scene depicted in the official music video at all. I think they hired some guys to do a "fake" video, to hammer the point home that most bands nowadays are just as concerned with their looks as they are the music, and sometimes moreso. Plus, at one point, the dude has an acoustic guitar, but there's no acoustic guitar in the song. Sorry.
