LYRICS COMPETITION '09 (because I'm avoiding doing school work) I figured it was about time for a new one, and I have a pretty fun idea as to what we could do. Before I type it up official, here's my idea. This is so I can gauge what kind of reaction it gets. And before you ask, I got this idea from reading Will's poems earlier and a mix of 'Who's Line Is It Anyway?'. Here's how it goes down: First we get a list of everyone who is willing to participate. Once the list is confirmed, I will need all who are on the list to PM me (or a third party, since I'm really stoked on this competition myself and might want to enter) a subject. ANY SUBJECT. The point is to be as silly or ridiculous with it as possible, like say, 'girl and boy meet, girl falls in love with boy, boy rejects girl because he is not of straight sexual orientation.' Or 'the trials and tribulations of a horny cannibal.' I don't know, I'm not exactly great at coming up with these ideas. But you get the idea. .It can run the gamut of any inane topic you can think of. Then by random draw, each person will get SOMEBODY ELSE'S subject and have to write a poem about it. Basically, I'm looking for humor. Lots of laughs. If Will's insanely hilarious poems can bring the Writer's Cove back to life, imagine what a whole writer's parade of insanely hilarious poems could do. We'd still judge the winners like our old competitions - with votes. Obviously, the entry with the most votes wins. I'm making this up as I go along, but as far as prizes go... here's what I'm willing to do: 1st Place - Change my name to whatever you please for half a year. 2nd Place - Design my signature to be whatever you please for half a year. 3rd Place - Change my avatar/title to whatever you please for half a year. If I end up entering... hell, I'll still give those prizes out. So you get funny poetic material to look at, AND I make a fool out of myself for half a year. What more do you have to lose? So... anyone interested? EDIT: Here are those who are down for me to look like a clown: Selene mcrc Nick Will Mr. Nobody (Seinfeld) Chris/Sylar Dedicated Joe (Uncle_Raj haha) Dean Dušan barnes80 Exalted Photon The fun begins! The topics have been submitted and distributed randomly to the participants. You now have 2-3 weeks (I'll probably go with the 3, since I don't know how well you'll take to your topic) to submit your entries via PM to me. Remember, do NOT post what your theme is, and work with an open mind. Let the randomness begin!
I guess I could give it a shot. I kinda retired from poetry but if its just for comedic purposes I might do ok. Just make sure we have a decent time period to write it because like a lot of people I'm sure, I've busy in school and might not be able to put it together in a night.
Oh I'm pretty busy with school too, don't you worry. I haven't yet decided on a deadline or how long you have to work on it. I just threw the idea out to see who's interested at the moment. Once we get a list, we'll discuss how long to take.
Oh and I forgot to mention it, and it should be obvious to those who've done it before. To those who haven't, yeah. The entries will be posted WITHOUT your name so voters can vote without bias.
so i need to add exalted photon, maverik, selene, and dedicated. Just a note to myself for when i get back to a comp. How many people do you want to aim for? I kind of want to do the voting in groups so as to give everyone a fighting chance. Also, a question: do you want the 'theme' of the poems to be stated outright or wait until the end?
considering the enteries will be anonomous, if you do post what the individual topics are make sure to remind everyone not to say "I'm doing the one on blah" But i do think it'd be interesting to see all the topics before the entries come in, it'll add to the comedy and suspense.
Will do. We've got 11 people so far! This is looking to be very good! Oh and by the way, don't send me the subjects yet! In fact, I don't know if I'm going to be the one distributing the subjects since I'm also entering the competition. I'm going to try to get a third party (probably a mod or admin) for that section of the process.
