Wow! Even though I've only listened to the demo once, I already like it better than the original. Imo it's just way more creative than the LT-version.
^This. Also, I would love if it had the middle section of Tinfoil/Powerless that was cut out at the last minute.
I am inclined to agree. ATS's experiments were more electronic based. This is more rock based. You could say that, rock music-wise, this is one of their best works musically.
Primo takes a shit all over Living Things, steals it's girlfriend, marries her and teaches their 3 sons and 1 daughter to pick on Living Things' kids.
I said it in the other thread, but someone needs to edit in the final chorus from I'll Be Gone into Primo somewhere as a big crescendo type thing. I like both choruses for different reasons. Lyrically, there's still a lot of heavy soldier imagery. This version makes it a little more obvious that its a soldier speaking to a significant other I think. It's also interesting how different a line can become by changing one word. "Tell them I was the only one, and there's nothing that can stop me from coming home" is like a more...commanding(?) line. Like tell everyone that I'm yours and I'm definitely gonna make it home. Confident. Compared to the line "tell me I am the only one, and there's nothing that can stop me," which sounds a lot more tender and desperate. Like I'm really unsure of what I'm going to be up against where I'm going, but when I hear you tell me you love me and you'll be there waiting for me, I can do anything. Pretty sappy but in a good way. And yes, I've always thought I'll Be Gone was underrated. For some reason the song just clicked with me lyrically.
I don't think that the final result really lives up to the song's potential; overproduced and many details drowned away. This demo version, and even the remixes themselves have been glorious iterations of the track.
I'll admit IBG had some of the best lyrics on the album, it's just that the song itself was musically redundant and the much-hyped Owen Pallet collaboration was buried so far into the mix that it might as well been nonexistent. Primo having unfinished lyrics is a good tradeoff for music that doesn't bore me.
My first reaction was "OMFG I'LL BE GONE IS SIX MINUTES LONG AND THE WALL OF GUITARS ARE GONE YESSSSS". I like Primo. It takes away the problems I had with IBG and adds more to the song. Still the song feels unfinished (orly a demo sounds unfinished?) and shouldn't be compared with the end result. Primo would only sound average if I'll Be Gone was never released.
