What Is the LPA Monthly Mix-Up? LPA Monthly Mix-Up is an ambitious concept intended to showcase the massive amount of musical talent currently unheard among the Linkin Park fan community. Every month, we will be challenging fans to compete and show off their musical skills, using any and all tools available to them to create their entry. At the conclusion of each competition period, our staff will then go through each entry submitted, and pick our absolute favorite to be featured on the site as the "Winner Of The Month". To promote fairness, runner ups will also be shown, but only one lucky Linkin Park fan will walk away with the honor of being featured as the "Monthly Winner". Now that we have that out of the way view this month's theme below. Our official theme for the month of March 2014 is: GUILTY ALL THE SAME With Special Guest Judge: Mike Shinoda With Linkin Park's new album expected to break new ground musically and creatively for the band...we felt it'd be appropriate to bring back the Monthly Mix-Up for one month only to allow the fans to reinterpret Linkin Park's latest single into their genre of choice. Although Linkin Park has advertised that their latest record will be a "visceral" and nasty rock record, we invite you to do whatever you feel like with this track and go all out. If you want to record new parts, go ahead. If you want to turn this into breakcore, or dubstep, or jazz or industrial...do it. Surprise us. All we ask is that you bring your creativity as we will only featuring the absolute best when we announce the winners next month. In an MMU first, we are providing the stems for the competition, instead of telling you to look for them. That's right. No searching, no making homemade acapellas...it's all here. All you need is to bring your skills. Therefore we expect nothing but greatness, so let's see some kickass entries. Also note as an MMU first, We will be having Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park as a guest judge to chose the winner. In light of our special guest judge, Mike Shinoda, the deadline for the contest will be extended until May 5th. DOWNLOAD STEMS OFFICIAL RULES
I've been trying for the last few days to come up with something but I just can't think of anything that sounds good with those vocals besides heavy guitars and drums.
Hence the challenge. There's plenty of ways vocals can be altered btw. There's no rules against melodyne, autotune or vocoders .
I will try. I've used so many different synths and done some stuff to the vocals but nothing did it for me. I'll find something that works though
What software would you guys be using? I really want to get into such stuff but I have no idea where to start. I'm loving the guitar stems.
I believe that the vast majority of users here would recommend Image-Line's FL Studio for its relatively easy learning curve. EDIT: as Duragon has mentioned below, Open Lab's StageLight is a very cheap DAW option for beginners, so I guess that's worth considering.
It's going to be interesting to see how this will turn out. LP's past couple of albums were more electronic and so now with this more guitar-heavy, raw and aggressive sound I'm looking forward to seeing how people can transform the song into something really fresh, especially since hard rock / borderline metal songs aren't typically the easiest to remix and make into something completely different. It would be awesome to see a remix album of this upcoming record like Reliving Things
Looking forward to it! I personally use Mixcraft 6 but the other ones everyone else suggested are good, too.
