It's not often we get to warn our users of outages in advance, because usually when it happens, it's just as much of a surprise to us as it is to you. However, this is one case where we can warn you that the LPA website and forums will experience several hours of downtime on Sunday, July 10th as we switch our forum software over to XenForo. We will work to make the outage as brief as possible, but based on my test runs, I still expect it to take most of the day. And now, some FAQs: Q: What time will it start? A: I expect to start around 10 AM Central / 3 PM GMT. Depending on what time I wake up, walk the dog, do my grocery shopping for the week, get laundry started, you know, all that fun adult stuff I normally do on Sundays. Q: Why? A: Our version of vB is out of date, and vB 5 sucks. In our opinion, XenForo is a better product. It has improved support for those new-fangled mobile interweb phone devices so your experience using the LPA while on the toilet, at work, or while driving will be a lot better. Welcome to 2008, amirite? Plus, we already paid for it, so now we might as well use it, I figure that's a good reason, right? Q: Will my posts, etc, copy over? A: We wouldn't be doing this conversion if they wouldn't. That includes over 2 million shouts, so some of the best (and worst) moments in shoutbox history will still be there. Q: How about all of the great smilies? Will they still be there? A: Q: I don't know how to use XenForo. A: Neither do we. We'll be learning together. And that wasn't a question.
