Mike Shinoda : Yeah, I made sure to do most of my vocals before Jay got in, so that things sounded tight before he heard them, and so I didn't have to go after him! But you can imagine how I felt: I would have loved to go back into all my lyrics and make them more complex and really step it up, but I thought that would ruin what we were trying to accomplish with the mash-up, so I didn't. I know what I do with LP (Linkin Park) is less technical, but rooted in the emotion, in order for it to work with the rock element. The project did make me want to step up my game, though. Mike is still trapped to the emotion type of lyrics , he really can't do his own Stuff at lp ,maybe a few song at most of his collabs his lyrics are a lot tighter , When he raps in lp songs he is mostly limited to emotinal type lyrics , because else it won't fit with rock . So he have to do collabs to show his skills . At a lot of hip hop sites they would like to see him make a solo album then he can use all his skill . I also wants to step up to his game see here^ and at his chat where he sad het felt going back to his hip hop roots. Do you think mike rhymes are limited at lp songs? And would you like to see him solo? Ps : I didn't say his rhymes from lp songs are bad but their just aren't that good as his collab song
To be honest, I'm getting tired of people saying that... LP don't have to stay with Warner so it's their decision to do what they do, and if their producer is trying to change what they're doing then don't they have the power to just say no because it's their music and their album? I think it's just becoming an excuse for fans that don't like to think that the band is becoming less like what they should be and 'poppier'... And when I say LP don't have to stay with Warner I mean that they had a contract with Warner for 5 albums and they've done that now, right? Can't they just leave Warner now?
Yep. Remember Making of Meteora and LPTV? Don kept telling them that their stuff was crap and that they had to re-write it.
They could leave Warner now, if they really wanted to. But Warner could just turn around and sue them for breaching their contract before it expired. The contract is for five studio albums, apparently, and since they've only done two, they have not fulfilled that contract. I don't think LP wants to go through with Warner what Incubus went through with Sony.

They could ask Warner to release them from the contract, but then they'd have to go through the fun of negotiation.
mikes raps are fine the way they are i dont think that he needs to go out and make a solo, it would be nice but dont stay that way. he rocks with lp and i dont think it should change in other words no i dont think that they are limited. ::ASHLEY::
Whoa, I think you guys have this quote ALL wrong. Mike wanted to step up his lyrics for the Mash Up to flow more with Jay-Z's but he decided not to or it'd ruin the idea of the mash-up in the first place. This has nothing to do with him being limited with Linkin Park.
i think mikes rhymes are limited on the lp songs.. he even said they were less technical so he even said its limited so he cant express himself.. would i like to see mike go solo.. if that meant the band breaking up no.. but id love to see him do more side projects like the handsome boy modeling school track.. i think hes a great lyricist and needs to show it more..
Yes he is limited on the LP songs but I dunno who does it. How do you know that Warner and Don Gilmore are limiting him. How do you know it's not the band.
Mike is totally limited with his rhymes. He is a great M.C. and Don Gilmore should give him a chance to let out all of his talent. He should do a solo project to show everyone like Warner, Gilmore, and as Duffy says the band, that he doesn't have to be so trapped not being able to write his own lyrics and show some skill. And Duffy, i'm not bashing you.
Now that Mike Shinoda is getting back to his hip-hop roots and doing all these collaborations, its only a matter of time that the next LP album will showcase his talent more since he even said he wanted to step up his game. If he couldn't step up his game on the next album, and being so limited on what he could rap about, do you think he would be fully satisfied with the album? I don't think so. With Mike being exposed to a lot of hip-hop as of late, his skills has greatly been elevated, and if he doesn't use his rapping abilities to the fullest on the next LP album, then he shouldn't even call himself a rapper.
I think that Mike is being limited because after listening to songs like And One and Step Up, it's very clear how much less intensive his rap in Meteora and even Hybrid Theory. I love his style in the songs, just think that there should be tracks where his skills are shown through more.
I think Mike has alot of potential (sorry if i mispelled that word), but perhaps he's worried his lyrics will take the music in another direction. I think he should take more chances w/ the lyrics no matter what anyone says, who knows it mite turn out good. He is a great MC and deserves to grow lyrically.
