New Line is getting set to launch The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King with 2,001 midnight Tuesday engagements prior to Wednesday's day-and-date release in many worldwide territories. Beginning Wednesday, domestic plans include the second-highest number of playdates ever at 3,687, with double- and triple-screening in many theaters fueling a print run of at least 7,100. Some 126 U.S. and Canadian venues are participating in a "Trilogy Tuesday" event in which exhibitors will program the first two "Rings" movies leading up to midnight showings of "Return of the King." "Kings" will rule on 11,500 foreign screens in total, up from 10,000 on the last "Rings" installment. Almost two-thirds of those foreign screens will bow by weekend, with the weekend's 7,037 foreign theaters bringing the weekend's worldwide distribution to more than 14,000 screens. "King" will also unspool in 16 foreign territories Wednesday, another seven on Thursday and four more Friday. An additional 13 international markets will get the pic by Dec. 31 and 21 territories bow throughout January, with the film finally hitting Japan in February. The domestic midnight showtimes for "King" - twice as many as for any previous "Rings" movie - will bolster first-day box office while compensating for problems caused by the film's nearly 3 hour and 20 minute running time. Two years ago, The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring grossed $313.4 million domestically and $865.9 million worldwide. Then last year's The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers amassed $339.8 million in U.S and Canadian coin and $920.5 million globally. New Line is expecting the third installment will make over $1 billion in worldwide grosses. Whos going to see it and when and this is how I feel right now knowing that iam going to see the trilogy tomorrow x1000
I think I'm going to see it Thursday just because so many people are going to see it on Wednesday. Tickets are probably already sold out here. But yeah, I'm trying not to get too hyped up and get my expectations up too high. OK, I can't help it. I'M EXCITED!
The only thing i'll enjoy more than seeing the movie is seeing the movie tank at the box office. It'd be hillarious to see it just gross like, $30 worldwide
I'm giong to see it at soon as possible!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I already know everyting what's going to happen.. well, what the book says.. so, I will enjoy if they do show the part when Frodo is naked
ive read the books 2, i enjoy them more then the film evn though i don't wanna think bout this part in the book !Commenting logically its not likely that the director is gonna exploit frodo's (elijah woods) little Ricard for half the world 2 see . Jeez how thick ppl can get !
Oh, no you didnt just start a LoTR topic before me! Anyway, I'm going to the midnight screening tonight, and no, they wont show Frodo naked, hes going to have very tattered clothing. I've seen pictures of all the places he was shot at and, no nudity. Dont worry.
It's being called Movie of the Year from everywhere. I can't wait to see it! My friend's off work on Thursday so we're going to go see it then. There were people already waiting to see Return of the King tonight in the mall. A guy I talked to said the lineup started at around 6:00 and it was 100 people long by 9:00 when I was in there. The movie didn't start until 12:30! It's crazy!
Since my parents are so anal-retentive, I have to wait all day, through school, and THEn go see it. The suspense will kill me and it will make my day go so slowly..... :argh:
I have to wait for two weeks, even though it's the gold class seats (which costs $35 a piece). Everything's sold out....
Saw the movie today but I cant pick which is the movie of the year, Return of the King or Pirates of the Carabean,
saw it a few hours ago, man, no one will leave disapointed.... awesome movie, a must see, not once, but twice!
I'm not gonna be able to see it until like next week or two weeks. damn busy schedule. at least i get to go to canada for skiing
