Anybody who says Iridescent is an indie song has never heard indie music before.

Because those songs are part of the precious ultimate perfection that is A Thousand Suns. Every single second of noise on that album is revolutionary and has never been thought of before.

Never said ATS doesn't have its flaws. Besides TM and W&K, I found all the songs on ATS to have much better reply-value. Plus they don't sound rushed and compact (like most songs on LT). And dafuq @ calling Iridescent an indie song.

Oh and Burning in the Skies to me is ten times more interesting/better written/fun to listen to than most songs on LT.

I do. Except if Metric, The National, Miike Snow, or White Lies aren't considered indie to any extent. And I really think Irridescent has an indie vibe. Well, I can also say it has an alternative rock vibe. Finally, what I'm trying to say is that what has been heard in Iridescent has already been heard a shitload of times before. Not in Linkin Park discography, but in the music world in general. So to consider it better than anything on LT is a little bit weird, at least to me. I'm just wondering how the people who're saying things like "All of LT is worse than all of ATS" could justify that.

Sorry for coming off like the douchebag, I must admit some posts in this thread irritated me.

Edit: ok, seems like I must be the only one to get an indie feel from Iridescent. But yet again, the song still sounds generic to me, whatever the genre might be.

Sorry, that particular title goes to either Given Up, SOTD, VD (Valentine's Day, or Venereal Disease, either one), or TLTGYA.

    All way too hammy.

Just saying that the lyrical content of Burning In The Skies alone blows away a lot/most/all of LT. Just going off of lyrical content, LT isn't particularly strong or weak imo. LT has compelling moments with mainly the second half of the album, but still, none of them can beat lines like "I'm swimming in the smoke of bridges I have burned. So don't apologize, I'm losing what I don't deserve." It's an opinion, sure, but that line alone is far more evocative than most/all of LT.

Wow... really? This song is one of the best they've written IMO, and the instrumentals are amazing!!! One of my favorite songs with them, and one of my favorite songs of all time...
The lyrics is what makes it so great! It's emotional, personal, something that one can relate to, it really gets to you, especially after the video...

Sorry was away from the internet so I couldn't reply.

To be fair CoG, RU, UIB and StB are pretty good at experimenting and achieving what ATS did.

    I completely 100% agree.

HHH have amazing lyrics. LGM's lyrics fit the song and and the flow of it. TM is great because they are raw and uplifting lyrics.

I agree though that if lyrics like HW would have been used here it would have been much better.

That's probably the only good part of the song (lyrically)

It just screams rehash of Meteora/HT to me. The song structure, the way it sounds and especially the lyrics. I mean how many times are they gonna sing about this one bad guy who they're moving on from and he should go fuck himself? And even if they want to rehash it, there are more interesting ways to do it than

"Check the rep, yep you know mine well
Forget the rest, let them know my hell
There and back, yet my soul ain't sell
Keep respect up, the best they fell
Let the the rest be the tale they tell "

    or the infamous contradiction:
"Y'all go hard, I go smart " and "Can't be stopped, all I know, Go Hard! "

It just feels like Jay Z or 50 cent attempting to write an angst song.

Well, all opinions are different I guess. But I think the lyrics are great, and so is the entire song..

I feel that what's happening here is that a lot of people are basing their opinion of "good lyrics" on the level of how poetic they are, and a lot of other people are saying that "as long as you can relate to it, they're good". I feel it could go either way.

    Of course...
    "I could never be held
Back or up no / I hold myself
Check the rep / yep you know mine well
Forget the rest / let them know my hell"
...aren't the most poetic lines in existence, but they get your blood flowing, especially when paired with that beat (and, oh my god, dat beat).

    Now...
"I'm swimming in the smoke / of bridges I have burned
    so don't apologize / I'm losing what I don't deserve
Its in the blackened bones / of bridges I have burned
    so don't apologize / I'm losing what I don't deserve
    what I don't deserve"
...doesn't necessarily get your heart pumping, but it speaks to you, moves you.

For me, unless the lyrics are about something just downright dumb (you a stupid hoe, you a, you a stupid hoe), lyrics by themselves do not matter as much as they do when paired with the music of the song. Forget about Mike's part in the song, "Victimized, victimized, never again, victimized." would get pretty tired after a minute and a half. Add in the rest of the band, and you have a masterpiece.

Question, for all of you who bitch about how Mike has apparently gone downhill in his lyrical ability since Hybrid Theory and how his lyrics have "dumbed down": Would you rather have this?

To the twilight through the skylight
And the highlights on a frame of steel
See the brightness of your likeness
As I write this on a pad to the way I feel
Hear the screaming in my dreaming
As it’s seeming that you've played your part
Like you're heartless, take apart this
In the darkness, but I know that

I'd like to believe Mike has improved leaps and bounds from that time period.
