Sharp Edges is easily my favorite. I want more of that from them for sure. Lyrics are fantastic too. Also, why can't I hear Chester during the solo on One More Light? Is it just me?
Sorry For Now reminds me of a combination of Blackout, Believe Me, and Fall Out Boy's Young And Menace. What a fucking song!!
I finally heard the album in full. Apart from the already released songs (Heavy, Battle Symphony, Good Goodbye and Invisible): Talking to Myself: great song, great vibe One More Light (the song): is beautiful though it's extremely basic. The other 4 I don't even remember. They got out of my head the exact same moment the next track came in of how generic they are. Conclusion: After 14 years of a declared fanboy and collector, this will be the first Linkin Park album that I will not buy.
I've just listened to the record and I am in shock. I am gobsmacked by how terrible this album is. What on earth were they thinking? I haven't been on this forum for years, but the new album peaked my curiosity. I don't think LP have ever released a bad album, but this is indefensible. They've teamed up with 'songwriters', but have failed to write a single good song. Chester's voice has never sounded worse - he manages to turn the song One More Light into a whiny cringefest (I understand it is about losing a friend to cancer - but that does not make it a good song). The single released before the album came out were boring and with no replay value. I'm from the UK, where Stormzy is super popular, and people think that him linking up with LP is an embaressment. That is how I'd describe this album. Embarrassingly bad. Trying so hard to emulate the sound of popular artists, but not even doing a good job at that. They said they were focusing on the lyrics for this album before the music, but really the lyrics are possibly the worst on any LP record and that is saying something. I have no idea how six members of a band creating this abomination. Phoenix and Joe are getting the easy pay check of their lives. I went into this record with an open mind, and have come out feeling utterly disgusted with a lazy, cheap, knock off pop album. Want to hear how a rock band does pop? Listen to the new Paramore record. Avoid this at all costs. Also, Derek's 'A' review of this album on AltWire is the most deluded review I have ever seen. He's not even trying to be impartial. I expect to be told to 'open my mind' or 'accept they've moved on'. My mind is open. I've moved on from Linkin Park, and I regret coming back to listen to this. Possibly the worst album of the year. ATS > HT > MTM > M > THP > LT > OML

16-year fan of the band, 14 years on this forum. First LP album I didn't buy was The Hunting Party. I feel like I made the better decision out of the two of us, but you're allowed to have your opinion, as unfortunate as it may be. Though I would venture out to argue with very well-thought out points and evidence that THP is more generic and basic than the songs on One More Light.
I've listened to 6 of the songs on the album so far....will wait for the rest. So far I think this album is better than their last 4 CD's.
Thank you! I appreciate the compliment. That's the beauty of subjective opinions. My opinion can differ completely from yours, and that's okay because it's an opinion. Just like I hold the opinion that you are completely deluded if you somehow think Chester sounds terrible on this album.
The lyrics are not poetic. They are personal. The band shouldn't have labeled them as great and convoluted and all that stuff. It's basic but since it's about their own lives, it means a lot to them. Perhaps that's what they were trying to say but it came off wrong.
I'm not even bothering to listen to this album in a good enviroment, everything silent, sitting in a comfortable chair. I'll just play it while i'm at work, doing other stuff, and that's enough.
Nobody Can Save Me reminds of Battle Symphony in the sense that both of the bridges are so underwritten. If I fall / Get knocked down / Pull myself up off the ground I've been searching somewhere out there / For what's been missing right here Like, can you be more vague The rest of the track is good.
