Nope. It counts itunes, amazon etc etc also. I think he meant that even though LP's preorder were less in 2012, the album sold more physically which allowed LP to beat Maroon 5 overall.
BATTLE ROYALE, UPDATE: The latest on the battle at the top of next week's chart finds Interscope's Lana Del Rey likely to move around 175-200k, with Sam Smith still pitched between 125-150k and Linkin Park moving up to the 125k neighborhood, fueled by iTunes streaming. Still, preorders prompted by album streams tend to be highly front-loaded. Short version: If Linkin overperforms and Sam bows at the low end of his forecast, the WB alt-rockers could seize the #2 spot. But that's a lot of ifs, and Sam is due for a slate of high-profile TV (and a buzzed-about Apollo Theater appearance) that could well juice his numbers. Stay tuned. (6/16p) ------------- ------------------- ---------------- ---------------- So LP will sell atleast around 120k to 130k from the new early estimates because of the increase after the itunes stream
The early estimate includes physical copies that they think LP would sell. The estimate could very well be wrong in the end. Let's see. Being the first day today, it should give us an idea.
I think they underestimate LP a little bit in physical sales. They were always strong in it. Maybe LP can reach the 175k+ mark. I hope many old school fans will buy the album, in fact of the good reviews and so on..

I mean to be fair their last number 1s were by like, a thousand or so different, both a a time when LP was a bigger band.
To be honest, if they really wanted to have a save No. 1 they just could have selected another date. But - as last time - they are going against very strong competition and it seems they don´t really care.
I want this album to sell more in the long run. LT didn't really sell a lot. I want this album to get a double platinum certification in the US or at least a platinum.
Diamond but to be serious. I hope they will get at least one Platinum here in Germany , that would be really good.
