After "The Hunting Party", I'd say that it's more than reasonable to assume that the fanbase at large fully expects another heavy gtr-driven rock album rather than a set of mellow acoustic-based tracks.
I agree with you, looking at the fanbase as a whole. But when looking at our community, it would be actually unexpected that they make a hard record, because most people assume they'll make a mellow album as an act of "unpredictability", while our community actually predicts this. Pretty weird. To be honest, I also think they'll make a less "visceral" album. It would be unexpected, if they make another visceral one. LP's general unpredictability make them predictable again, in a way. :O
Nah, even here, people think they might release a heavy record again. They just want it to be mellow. Expectations are always a recipe for disaster though.
Yeah, you're right. Still, personally I would be really surprised if they make a heavy record like THP again. I guess it will just be something completely different, no mainly acoustic album and no mainly guitar-driven album.
Its LP, so we just have to wait for the first single, until then, we can hardly say what they want to do As long its not album full of Burn It Downs, i am open for everything.
I disagree with your disagreement. Mike's voice is beautiful but he can't do a lot of things with it to make an whole interesting album.
I disagree with your disagreement of his disagreement There's more than one aspect to an album than vocals, which I don't think Mike's as limited in as some other artists. Shit, Our Endless Numbered Days by Iron & Wine is a fantastic record yet Sam Beam barely does more than whisper throughout. Although on the flip-side, that puts more emphasis on the lyrics, which isn't something Mike and the gang shine at.
Interesting points. Doesn't change my mind on the matter, though. Shinoda would need one or two other singers at the very least to make an entire rap-free pop album.
http://lplive.net/shows/db/2015/20150113 I guess this is kinda relevant. A month ago the band played a three song acoustic set.
I think the one thing that is stopping LP from doing this entirely is their focus on "songs they can play at concerts". ATS was fantastic but for some reason they thought the songs on that album were very energy draining. That's why we haven't seen the band play some of their more interesting material off of LT live. I really want to see them do an acoustic album (despite Brad's um... deficiencies as a guitar player), but with their "high energy concert" mindset, I doubt we'll see that.
I don't think an acoustic EP would be an impossibility, 4-6 tracks would work well for the band if they wanted to do something acoustic. I could never see them doing a full acoustic album though.
