Now that it is finally here let us know what you think of Linkin Park's new album 'One More Light' on our Forums!
By far their weakest album. I don't care as much about genre as I do good songwriting, which is why a lot of HT still holds up, and MTM and ATS still shine, but this is just their weakest effort. The songs are lacking in melody, the lyrics are nothing special despite the apparent focus on them, and since it's fairly average pop production, there isn't much there instrumentally to make up for lack of substance in the songwriting. One More Light is the strongest track, a fairly pretty ballad, but then you think of songs like Iridescent where they did it better and it becomes less impressive.
I've written whole essays about this album in the leak thread and the shoutbox already, so I'll keep this more succinct. I'm very hopeful that this album resonates with me the same in 6 months as it does now. Because this album hits me hard in a way I haven't felt about an LP album in a while. The new car smell may fade and the high may be less steep, but in this moment OML is both emotionally and sonically an album I didn't know I needed until I heard it. @AdamWBR, I know you've probably at least peeked in the leak thread. If you haven't, let me just say you should feel vindicated that, for the most part, we as a fansite and fan base have immensely enjoyed this album for its leaps in lyrical content, its complexity in instrumentation (and holy shit have we noticed the complexities in that instrumentation), its stark honesty, its infectious melodies, and the hopeful and optimistic tone that pervades throughout. You were right when you said we would be on board in the end, and I think it's important that you and the band and everyone responsible for this record know that there is a sizable portion of the fanbase that would like to thank you for letting this record be what it is.
Lacking melody? What? Did you even hear the album? You can dislike but to say it lacks melody is a lie
Just because someone disagrees with you doesn't make their opinion a lie. I've listened to this a dozen times and can remember only a handful of the melodies. There isn't a single song here with as good a melody as say LOATR or SOTD. Anyway, I think I posted this in the wrong thread.
I'm enjoying the album right now. I'm starting to understand it. The songs all alone doesn't make so much sense, i didn't like the singles at all the. But in the context of the album i think i can accept and learn to like them.
Joe actually did most (ok, all) of the hard work on this! Thanks @Joe! --- Thanks for the LPA love, guys! Your dedication to visiting this site and participating on here/our social media is always appreciated. I hope you enjoyed it here during the pre-album release madness and I hope you all enjoy One More Light. If you don't, then maybe the next album will be for you!
Anyone else having the same issue with their store with warner bros? I preordered back in ferbruary and my order still says processing and has not shipped. Considering tomorrow is the release date i would've assumed my CD would've come by tomorrow the latest and now I'm starting to get pissed I won't get the physical CD tomorrow. #firstworldproblems
