Plus Awesome to get a brand new tune with Chester! Chester performance on this is stunning : sense of vulnerability in the verses, real powerful choruses and bridge Instrumental is somewhat uplifting, provides a cool contrast with the dark lyrics Catchy, cinematic, efficient tune Minus Lyrics are ... not their best. It's not about the content, but more about the choice of words/phrasing I guess it was either this song or Numb on the album, and if that's the case, I think the band made the right decision back then. Really happy to have this anyway, and looking forward the video
Sounds like Meteora injected with a heavy dose of poppiness. Lyrics are... Well, I've heard worse. It's very cool to hear Chester on "new" old Linkin Park music.
I would have taken this over Somewhere I Belong. I haven't heard the whole thing yet but I heard enough. The verses are great and I'm not going to judge the lyrical content because it was written in 2002/2003. Certified nostalgic banger.
LYRICS BELOW -SPOILER-: [Verse 1] Just a scar, Somewhere down inside of me Something I cannot repair, Even though it'll always be, I pretend it isn't there (This is how I feel) I'm trapped in yesterday (Just a memory) Where the pain is all I know (This is all I know) And I'll never break away (Can't break free) Cause when I'm alone... [Chorus] I'm lost in these memories, Living behind my own illusion Lost, all my dignity, Living inside my own confusion [Verse 2] But I'm tired, I will always be afraid, Of the damage I've received, Broken promises they made, And how blindly I believed (This is all I know) I will never break away (Can't break free) Cause when I'm alone... [Chorus] I'm lost in these memories, Living behind my own illusion Lost, all my dignity, Living inside my own confusion [Bridge] I've tried to keep this pain inside, But I will never be alright, I've tried to keep this pain inside, But I will never be alright (I'm lost...) I've tried to keep this pain inside, But I will never be alright (I'm lost...) I've tried to keep this pain inside, But I will never be alright [Chorus] I'm lost in these memories, Living behind my own illusion Lost, all my dignity, Living inside my own confusion
Kind of disappointing. Not necessarily a bad song but nothing special. It has a mtm vibe to it. But It's nice to hear Chester's voice on a new song.
I feel all the nostalgia pouring in.. But it does feel like an unfinished track, still unpolished on a few parts. This is most likely a demo that made it far into the process but was discarded and left as is. If they felt they could put it on the album I'm sure they would've probably rewritten the lyrics ad nauseam until they found something that fit, like they used to during the early days. Also I think they would've closed the song a bit better towards the end, it feels stitched up from the bridge onwards. But I'm sure I will be listening to this for a while. By the way I'm impatient and I need to know when the presale for the box goes live, I absolutely do not want to miss it.
After the first few listens i really like it. Especially the chorus and the bridge are pretty cool imo. The song will be on repeat for a few weeks now
That chorus is generic af, but the verses and the bridge are really good. I can see why it didn't make it to the album though.
Trying to imagine how the vibe of the verses would have matched with the TTTAMP chorus, think this chorus although generic, fits better.
Cringed at the lyrics start to finish, basically like I thought I would but, aside from that, I like everything in it. It really is as polished as @Derek said it was, but you can totally tell it wouldn't have fit sonically amongst the songs that made the final tracklist
Very polished IMO, but there's no way this song could sit on the same album as Numb - makes sense it was left off. Mike's lyrics particularly feel very much like placeholders, and I would've loved to hear some more riffage from Brad, but it's a solid song and unsurprisingly Chester sounds phenomenal. Good to see some familiar faces here, hope everyone has been well!
Not a bad song but, yeah, I don’t think I’d want to see this as a song on the finished product. Chorus was classic Meteora catchiness and the bridge was surprisingly different from what I expected. Verses were nothing particularly that interesting but Chester’s delivery of “but im tired” was really punchy. I kinda probably would have preferred some rap verses tbh (but I am a sucker for 2002-2003 Mike’s rap voice ) still, it’s amazing we finally got an unreleased Meteora song after 20 years. Optimistic for the other unreleased songs/demos.
Still holding out for the 12 AM drop time here. Though, i'm really loving how much hype LP are giving this song on their socials, and everything. This feels like a full on proper single drop. I missed feeling this.
Yeah, the "Hybrid Theory" was more low-key in this respect. This song has a bit more commercial appeal compared to those demos, could do alright on alt radio
This certainly has the feeling or being just past mid-day in the song writing process. Just another lyric re-write or two and it probably improves drastically. Edit:. Yeah, this really grew on me. I definitely like these lyrics a lot more after numerous listen. Especially the bridge.
A new interview with Mike : Starting around the 26:00 min mark, he confirms that Lost was a "done deal", mixed and master, and that it was really, really close to being on to the record. He also confirms the reason they didn't include it was because it had the same kind of energy as Numb, and they favored Number over it
