According to a statement from Brad in the newest Linkin Park Newsletter, the band have started recording their new album. The album, set tentatively to be released in late summer 2006, will be their third major release behind 2000's 'Hybrid Theory' and 2003's 'Meteora'.

    Brad also commented on the band's Grammy performance with Jay-Z and Paul McCartney;

"I wanted to take the time to express my appreciation for your dedication and support, and share with you my feelings about an experience I know I will never forget. Earlier this month, we and Jay-Z were afforded two tremendous honors: a Grammy award for our collaboration on "Numb/Encore," and the experience of performing with one of the most important and accomplished musicians of the modern era.

On February 8th, the seven of us were joined onstage by Sir Paul McCartney, to mash together the Collision Course single with one of the Beatles' most classic songs, "Yesterday." "Yesternumb," or "Yesternumbencore," if you will, blended together three seemingly unrelated compositions into one remarkable whole. Most striking to me about this union is that it highlights the connection between these three songs, and, in fact, the interrelationship of all musical forms.

And on a personal level, it was also incredibly fun. I'm compelled to report that Sir Paul is one of the most humble, gracious, affable people with whom we've had the privilege of collaborating.

I speak for all of my bandmates when I say that we are incredibly grateful for this experience, and that we would not have been able to accomplish this special performance, or anything else for that matter, if it weren't for your incredible loyalty and support.

I hope this note finds all of you well.

P.S. Recording is going great--I can't wait for you all to hear this stuff."

It does seem like a summer release date is extremely possible now.

Can't wait to hear what Linkin Park's sound is like now with Rick Rubin's guidance.

I'm sure that with Rubin at the helm, this next release will be Linkin Park's best.

Are they in an actual recording studio for the final recording or is this still the recording at a pre-production studio or whatever?

    I'm an idiot..

I'm unsure. They could be pre-recording in Mike's house/somewhere else again or actually at a recording studio. That's why I generalized with the news post.

I'm curious, with Rick working with Metallica at the same time, is it possible/likely he will be putting less of an effort into the LP album than he would if he wasn't working with a big band, such as Metallica?

Rick is also working with Justin Timberlake as well for his next album. Quite the busy man he is.

Edit: I don't know if he's finished working with Justin or not, but I do know he is working with him.

Linkin Park is a pretty big band, I'd say. They certainly aren't little guys anymore. Of course, not as big as Metallica, but I'd say they're still a pretty big band to deal with.

I'm excited to hear this album sooo much. I hope that song we were promised comes out in the near future just as something refreshing and new that hints towards what the new album will sound like.

Damn! That's news to me! I was wondering where he went.

But, I still don't think the LP album will be out in the summer

That's great news. Like Joe said, Rick Rubin is awesome because he works with some really diverse artists. Justin Timberlake, huh? Maybe he'll produce for Kevin Federline and show up in the video like he did in 99 Problems.
