    Heres the full article...

"R. Kelly, Linkin Park, Mariah Songs Banned From 'American Idol' Auditions

The third season of American Idol kicked off this week on FOX with the final auditions show airing Wednesday (January 21) at 8 p.m. ET. The three opening shows take a behind-the-scenes look at the good, the bad, and the really, really bad from auditions in New York, Atlanta and Houston. The season premiere of American Idol on Monday (January 19) attracted an estimated 28 million viewers.

According to information from the hit show obtained by LAUNCH, several singers and songs were banned from being performed at this year's auditions, including Sarah McLachlan's "Angel," Etta James' "At Last," Elton John's "Candle In The Wind," and the ever-popular "Fallin'" by Alicia Keys. You also won't hear anything by Bruce Springsteen, James Taylor, Mariah Carey, No Doubt, R. Kelly, Tom Petty, Korn, Linkin Park, Carly Simon, or John Mellencamp during the audition process.

The American Idol memo also discourages "most alternative rock bands" to perform during the audition.

This could be the ####### stupidest news story ever  Worthy of being posted ;) But damn this is ####### stupid. Did the record companies order the shows producers to prevent the songs from airing? And about the discourages "most alternative rock bands", What self respecting band would even THINK to audition for that piece of #### show?

That is retarded. Completely ####### retarded. They call it American Idol and it's a person or band's chance to be seen, and they go and make restrictions based upon the style of music that they play. Why don't they just go and call it "I-Wanna-Be-Like-Britney-Or-Mariah-Who's-Music-All-Sounds-The-Same-Because-All-Our-Fans-Are-Braindead Idol"

I'm sorry, Neil, but I'm going to have to warn you for using "retarded" as an insult.
