I still find Meteora has aged far better than HT, but that's just my opinion. While their highlights are iconic, I even like a record like THP more than them as a whole package.
I think some parts of both albums still hold up while some parts of both albums aged poorly. Take the bad out of both and keep the good from both and you have a phenomenal album.
Definitely understand what Minus is saying because that's how I feel about One More Light, it's their 2nd worst album IMO but still an 8/10 at worst. I think my disconnect comes because I rank Meteora as their 2nd best album but I do have a very hipster ranking with Living Things at #1.
On the production and arrangement fronts, I feel that "One More Light" specifically brought nothing new or interesting to the table when compared to "Meteora" or any other LP album, and also compared to what was going on in the pop landscape at the time. I think it's all in the songwriting and vocal performances, and the instrumentation and sonics are there purely to play support to those elements. Unfortunately, I don't find that songwriting to be compelling or even substantial now. I don't want to make any prediction on what the band might or might not do stylistically, but, as others have said, they know the stakes and they're clearly preparing to make a significant statement with whatever is coming
Yeah I have to agree with this statement. LP have always done something at least adjacent to what was popular at the time any given record came out, but OML felt like it was especially derivative, and what didn't help it was that it only had 10 tracks, and none of them were especially long-- they all followed a traditional pop structure, and every LP album before that had at LEAST one or two songs that came out of left field with a right hook to the face. OML was missing that kind of punch.
If it’s a full fledged return with a new album, I’m betting on it all sounding like a grittier Living Things. Which is to say, a blend of everything they’ve ever been up to that point mashed with a uniform and conceptual lurch forward. Kinda feels pedestrian to say in hindsight. A whole lotta nothin’. But it’s fun to imagine. Also, have to agree on OML. I was cool with the idea, but it was all really forgettable. A little experimentation to contrast the accessible sound would have made a huge difference.
How likely would warner music shut down a live watch party of this on youtube/twitch? You know how can you stream but not have the audio of the music show up in the VOD? I want to do a reaction stream but don't want to get banned. I know you can get stuck down mid stream is my concern. Or can you get struck down mid stream for playing music?
I think it's only the VOD afterwards that you'd need to be concerned about, I doubt anything will happen in the moment
Obviously no idea if the rumors are true but I really enjoy this live performance. Shows she would put on a great live show with Linkin Park
