This is why I don't like remix albums these days. They're essentially just collections of people making songs suitable for a dance club. Remix Albums and remixes in general back in the heyday, such as Reanimation, remixed songs to give a different perspective on the song. A true meaning to the word remix. Nowadays it's just add-bass-and-sell-to-deejays. This remix is terrible. Nearly all remixes these days are terrible.
I feel like I'm the only guy who's really excited for this album. :/ Then again, I've always wanted to hear a full-on non-rock EDM LP album, even if they are just club remixes. And take notice, guys. If LP themselves say that these remixes are fantastic, then you know what kind of influences they could use for LP6, 7 or 8.
And I'm still excited to hear Mike's remixes and a few of the others we haven't heard on the album. One "meh" remix does not a bad album make.
The general consensus is that half of the album is terrible. This doesn't bode well for the other half of the album.
Isn't it too much of a generalization to say half of the record is terrible? Personnaly, I think some of the remix we got so far are pretty decent/good. The Money Mark version of UIB was pretty creative and refreshing, the Killsonic version of LITE is way more powerfull than the original and has a great dirty bass, and the Powerless remix had some nice eerie synth. A remix not being an entire re-interpretation of a song doesn't automatically make it bad...
You're not the only one! I'm excited, too. I don't really know what to expect, though, since I've only heard this Dirtyphonics remix so far, I wasn't even aware that some of the other remixes were available, too... I don't know, I'm just happy that LP are releasing something new. If I don't like Recharged, then fine, I'll move on and start waiting for the next studio album which could be something totally different.
Gotta say Mike's new verse in the I'll Be Gone remix was a surprise. *EDIT* The ones where new parts were recorded were the best ones, the other ones...not so much.
Honestly, overall I'd give the album a C-. It's mostly a predictable remix album that one would expect it to sound like. Having said that, I wasn't expecting much to begin with. My favorite tracks are I'll Be Gone w/Mike's verse, Castle of Glass, and Victimized.
I honestly hope no one bought the 500 dollar package for this. I'm not trying to be negative or cynical, but really. There are some nice moments though. Mike's new verses surprised me, and BOOMBOOMBOOMBOOM hardstyle Victimized is something I wanted to hear that I never knew I wanted to hear. Everything else is skippable for me.
I like the new verses and I really dig the COG remix, but other than that it's just straight up boring and predictable. But like someone else said, I was never expecting much to begin with, so something is better than nothing. Looking forward to LP6!
YEAH, HARDSTYLE VICTIMIZED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He dit it ahah. But thinking about it, if there had to be one EDM genre that fitted the spirit behind Victimized, it was hardstyle. I never though I would ever hear a LP track which would belong to this genre, I'm proved wrong I guess. Edit: after a whole listening session, I have to say, I quite like this. Except for those damn awful BID remixes and the RU one, I don't dislike anything on it.
