I really tried to listen to the album and see what the praise was all about, and I'm still left wondering what the praise is all about. That album sounded like absolute garbage.
I get what you mean. You actually get that you just don't think the song hit it's potential. I've seen people front like they love that kind of stuff, just this song is crap. I love it when people are just honest and say "No I get it,I just don't think it's very good. Not for me." In the age of perceived haters and stans people aren't very honest anymore on forums. You either love it or "don't get it".
This album is absolutely incredible. The two poems in Mortal Man tie up the themes of the album so damn perfectly. And the jazz & funk? So good. I've currently only heard 2 records this year, and both of them have blown me away.
What a fucking awesome album. It's better than his first two by far. It might be my favorite hip hop album since The Cool.
Actually, The Cool was the 2nd last new Hip-Hop album to make my all time Hip-Hop list So that's funny xD
I'm still not sold on Kendrick as a writer. I think he's great at putting together vivid concepts that are compelling to hear as a listener but when you get down to his skills as a writer I don't think he's that great.
His writing is more or less 1:1 with his perception of things and I find that admirably. He is more or less as real as it gets.
Actually, I can agree with this. I wouldn't say he's a great lyricist, but he's creative, has a lot of heart and passion, and is doing things no one else is. I have to give him a lot of respect for that, creativity is something I feel is lacking in mainstream music lately. Or at least from what I've heard, but my opinions are generally shit so eh.

No but it's just a horrible mix. Their fanbases don't match at all and neither do their music. To be fair Kendrick isn't the reason the track sucks but that chorus is just laughable bad.
Kendrick certainly didn't make the track any better. He helped hinder the track, just not as much as Taylor Swift. EDIT: So how many times is Taylor Swift gonna write about break-ups?
This song is actually about Katy Perry being a back stabber and is by far one of the worst three songs on the album. I wish she had gone with another song like Clean or I Know Places.
