This is something extremely close to my heart, and I just wanted to share this great news. For the past four years, since September 2004, I have been part of a team for the Leukemia Lymphoma Societies Light the Night walk. This team, Friends of Heroes, has a core of about 1500 members nationwide and into Canada. As of yesterday, we have raised an amazing $996,787!!!! This puts us only $3,213 away from the incredible goal of 1 Million Dollars raised towards the fight against blood cancers. In four years we have done something that no other Friends and Family team has done in the ten year history of the event we participate in. I am so extremely proud of this. If you want to read about us, we are online at www.friendsofheroes.org (I am the webmistress for this website, and have put countless hours and a lot of love into designing it.)
That is great! really good to hear. My grandma has cancer, not BLOOD, but throughout her entire body.
Thanks everyone for the comments. My walk is this weekend, on Saturday night, and I really think that we will be at a Million by Monday. It all depends on the last minute donations from the various teams that are walking this weekend. It still amazes me that all of this started with the story of one little girl that her mother posted on a parenting message board. A blue eyed baby girl from Texas brought about so much change in her less then nine months of life.
Ok, I know I am not suppose to double post, so please don't be mad at me but..... I know what it feels like to have helped raise an astonishiing $1,000,247 dollars!!!!! All because of one blue eyed baby girl from Texas named Allie Scott, whose family shared their story of their daughter and her fight against Leukemia. Allie's story didn't have a happy ending, she lived an all too short 8 months and 27 days. Allie, sweet girl, this is all because of you. Derek has given me permission to post the link to my fundraising page in the charities thread, I will be doing that shortly. If any of you can donate even a few dollars, all of it helps. I would appreciate it so much.
