Next week I will be releasing an ambitious project called Journey: Voyager Sounds of the Cosmos Remixed, an ambient musical project that takes recordings from space made by satellites, ground recordings and spacecraft sent to the unknown, primarily the legendary Voyager program, and reworks it into ambient music that will be beautiful, terrifying and, overall, stratospheric. The album follows up an extremely popular compilation album I made nearly two years ago, called Voyager: Sounds of the Cosmos, which took all known recordings of the Voyager program and rounded them up into one convenient and handy source! Alot of space geeks and wanderers had come across the collection, and had made the collection radically popular in the internet underground. The only way I could follow up to this popularity was to do something radically different: make a remix album, and the debut studio album by RazorEye!

Journey comes out on August 30, 2013. You can visit the official website here!

Here's a few trailers that were released over the past few months:

Here's the second single from the album, released last week, called "Our Nearest Neighbor":

And here's a promotional single from the album called "Home":

"Our Nearest Neighbor" sounded pretty freaky. Imagine listening to that whilst being lost in space.

Kinda cool. I agree 'Our Nearest Neighbor' feels to me as a creepy take on what space would sound like if there was sound.

I'm curious about "Home", that sample is huge and cuts off about three minutes from the sweet ambiance that follows. Am I looking at it the wrong way thinking that?

Edit: also, what kind of programs do you use for actual production?

"Home" consists of what originally was nearly 40 minutes worth of recordings from my school during lunchtime, the crowds on the main street of my hometown and some recordings made on late night television one night, in which I recorded a segment of Top Gear and Question Time from parliament, at a time when ol' Julia was still the Prime Minister! The track is then followed by a sample of Sigur Ros' "Takk...", laden with about twelve or thirteen (can't remember) recordings from Earth orbit from the Soviet space program, old 1960s NASA satellites and transmissions from the International Space Station. It's meant to signify the mass of noise that we on Earth create, compared to the sharp contrast of outer space as the album begins. It's more beautiful up there than down here, which I think you sort of got, but music is art! You can interpret it anyway you like!

The program that i use is good ol' Audacity! Here's a screenshot I posted a few weeks back on what "Our Nearest Neighbor" ended up looking like in Audacity when I was done:

Oh, wow. That's a hell of a lot of clips, I think I can appreciate it much more now.

Interesting. Fairly straight forward and simple program. What other programs do you have in your :toolbox:? I'm interested. :D

I use a ton of samples from various spacecraft recordings, all sources which can be found here. Scroll down to Journey's credits if you're interested.

For original sounds, I sneak into my school's instrument room and use the keyboard without permission during lunchtimes. :bradwink:
