Is it time to let Hybrid Theory take off the crown?

I personally think that A Thousand Suns is Linkin Park's best album behind Minutes to Midnight. Even though that is my opinion, many people say that Hybrid Theory either has been the best pre-ats or still is the best.

I know it's the first album, and many people are connected to the music and the impact the album brought on their lives, but don't you think it's time to let one of their other albums wear the crown and be the best?

I personally think A Thousand Suns is deserving of this. Beautiful electronic instrumentals, amazing lyrics from Mike and Chester, amazing singing and rapping, wide ranges of vocals whether it be Chester rapping and then screaming his head off, or Mike rapping reggae over Chester's smooth clean soft vocals, or both of them harmonizing together, this album simply brings in alot of good. Another example is the group vocals in Iridescent.

This album is a masterpiece front and back. Some interludes seem a tad bit rushed and filler-like, but others will blow your mind whether it be raging synths and Japanese lyrics, or Martin Luther King Jr. turning into an evil cyborg over a sad piano. Each track is different from the next. "The Catalyst" dosen't sound like "Waiting For The End". "Blackout" dosen't sound like "Wretches and Kings", well you get the idea.

Hybrid Theory on the other hand was still a great album, but the lyrics seemed a bit weak, and basic. They did help alot of people through tough times though.

This isn't a let's make ATS look like it will murder HT thread, but it's more of a simple question. I dethroned HT in 2007 when MTM dropped, but millions of people would disagree and want me dead. My question here is, is everyone willing to say that A Thousand Suns is finally their best album and not Hybrid Theory? It's your opinion, but, if you listen to Hybrid then listen to Thousand, you will realize that everything in ATS is enhanced, and the creativity is incredible.

    Your thoughts.

I really think ATS is better as an album than HT.

Yes, I would say A Thousand Suns is better than Hybrid Theory. By how much? Pretty slight margin IMO.

I would say by a bigger margin, but not like it's completely owning it. More like just better. I enjoy the diversity.

When you quit thinking about how great hybrid Theory was 10 years ago and examine how great it is now, it's nowhere near the classic everyone remembers it being. Still good, really good, but it's not some untouchable piece of music history by any stretch of the imagination.

That said, ATS and Hybrid Theory is really like 2 different bands with the same members, so I personally can't make a solid "This one is better than this one" case. Both are good though.

They are the best albums that belong to each of their eras, they're both great, but they're so different that you can't compare them, and they belong to a specific place in LP's timeline. They're both masterpieces.

I think A Thousand Suns is the best material that Linkin Park has ever put out. Simple. I don't even think Hybrid Theory is close, as great as it was at the time.

The only reason that I say it's slim is the fact that ATS only has the 9 full songs. As an album, it's definitely better than HT, but I enjoy listening to bits as well and I only have 9 choices rather than 12.

Hybrid Theory never had the crown, IMO.

Meteora has it, but A Thousand Suns could grab it when Meteora isn't looking.

True, but each of those choices is roughly 4 minutes or longer, three around 5 minutes. Hybrid Theory had fairly short songs. And with the diversity of every song in ATS, it's not like you're getting ripped off.

Never said anything about getting ripped off. It's just one of my minor complaints with the album.

The 9 actual songs on ATS are longer than all of Hybrid Theory. Plus you get dominant interludes, as well. Hybrid Theory was the best thing ever when I had no vocabulary and could only understand my feelings through basic emo lyrics and beginner level guitar riffs layered over pretty good synth. Now that I'm no longer a retarded shell of a human, I understand how bad that music actually is. Yeah, it's catchy as hell, but it's basically as simplistic as music comes.

A Thousand Suns is by far the better record. It's laughable how much better it is.

A Thousand Suns > Hybrid Theory > Meteora > Minutes to Midnight. Not to say I hate Minutes.

Whether this new album is better than "Hybrid Theory" or not, that's up to you, man. ;) Both albums are good for their times, though.
