I don't know if this has been discussed yet, but since Chester died, I thought a really good way for Linkin Park to celebrate his life and their career with him (other than releasing One More Light Live) is to give new-coming listeners the best representation of their work during his time in the band from 1999 to 2017. I know the band is going to continue anyway, but the unfortunate reality is that some people will no longer follow the band without Chester (which is unfair, because contrary to what the rock community thinks, we know he wasn't the only talent in the band). I think this would make the perfect Best Of Linkin Park compilation (not necessarily my favorites, just the best representation of their work and what they will be remembered for): DISC 1 1. And One (because it was the first song they wrote when Chester joined the band) 2. One Step Closer 3. Crawling 4. Papercut 5. In The End 6. A Place For My Head 7. Pts.Of.Athrty 8. Somewhere I Belong 9. Faint 10. Numb 11. Breaking The Habit 12. Lying From You 13. Numb/Encore 14. What I've Done 15. Bleed It Out 16. Shadow Of The Day 17. Given Up 18. Leave Out All The Rest DISC 2 1. New Divide 2. The Catalyst 3. Waiting For The End 4. Iridescent 5. The Messenger (this really became a fan favorite after Chester died) 6. Burn It Down 7. Lost In The Echo 8. Castle Of Glass 9. A Light That Never Comes 10. Guilty All The Same 11. Until It's Gone 12. Wastelands 13. Rebellion 14. Final Masquerade 15. Heavy 16. Good Goodbye 17. Talking To Myself 18. One More Light What are your thoughts? Do you think something like this will happen or no?
You're not listening. I said these aren't my favorite songs, in fact I hate Good Goodbye with a passion, but they are a good overall representation of Linkin Park's discography with Chester, and Good Goodbye was one of the more well known songs off OML. Like it or not, people aren't going to remember them for songs like The Little Things Give You Away or A Line In The Sand, they are going to be remembered mostly for mixing rock with hip-hop and electronic music. That's just the reality. I'm not saying I agree with it.
I'm sure one will happen at some point. If it isn't something the band decides to do, I'm sure the label will.
I really, really, really, really...hope not. I never liked the idea of Greatest Hits. They just feel like cheap contract fillers for me. I'd support a boxset with unreleased demo takes or something, but a Greatest Hits? Hard pass.
That's why I'd only support it if the band approves. Some Greatest Hits compilations such as Avenged Sevenfold's or Papa Roach's were done without approval from the band, because the label wanted to make a quick buck, and I hate that. If Linkin Park is okay with it, I'll support it.
