Okay, I have some problems with getting rid of these annoying pop-ups I keep getting whenever I load up IE and even when I close a browser window too. It's from a site named belgiandip.com. I'm guessing it's a spyware site and I was actually kinda stupid enough to check it out. All the page displays is the country I'm from along with my IP address. The ads are from that site and they seem harmless, but then I wouldn't know if they were harmful anyway. I use Ad-Aware but it isn't able to get rid of this. So if anyone here has had this problem before and actually got rid of it, please give some input. I know the obvious way to avoid po-ups is if I stopped using IE and used something else like Mozilla but I want to know if there's a better solution than that. Thanks. I actually have another problem that deals with me losing my internet connection all the time and I can't get it back unless I reset my modem, but I'll go into that later.
Get This Google Toolbar Its the best out there and it takes literally seconds to download, hope this helps you out
^^Smart person. Google Toolbar owns. [/b][/quote] Ive always used it, gets rid of everything, best out there IMO
I have the same thing and I can't get rid of it! I use NoAds for pop-up blocking, but this Google toolbar sounds enticing. I don't know where I got this AdWare from, although I think it's from something off of mess.be
Thanks for the input so far, guys. It's good to know I'm not alone in this too. My friend said I might have gotten it from ircspy.com or packetnews.com since I use those sites for searching for files. About that google toolbar though, if it's anything like the yahoo one or the msn one, then it probably won't do much good since I have the yahoo one and it doesn't block all types of pop-ups. It even says so on the page where I downloaded it.
Google Toolbar does sound tempting, but the Yahoo! one has blocked 577 pop-ups so far so it ain't bad. :wth:
Well, mine blocked its share of pop-ups, but don't you have ones that still manage to pop up? This is what I mean: http://help.yahoo.com/help/us/companion/pu...pub/pub-10.html If not, then I am definitely going to try Google's toolbar. Edit: Okay, Google toolbar users should read this: http://www.toolbar.google.com/faq.html#unblockable So it's no different than the yahoo one..bah.
My personal opinion: scrap pop up stoppers, get Mozilla. Mozilla is a alternative web browser, replaces Internet Explorer. It has built in pop up blocker technology which blocks the ones that come automatically, but doesn't kill ones you activate personally like clicking a link to download that opens a new window. It also has tons of other great features like tabbed browsing, download manager etc. Also, if you don't have it, get Spybot Search and Destroy and Adaware. They have free versions and work great. I also use a prog called Windows Washer which works great too.
I guess I have no choice but to get Mozilla if I want the easy way out, which I do. Katie, the Google toolbar is free.
OR if you dont want the google toolber get adaware 6.0 it deep scans your registary for spyware adware and pop up files and gets rid of all ad files god im good lol
Okay, I think I found out how to get rid of belgiandip.com's pop-up ads for good. Here's a quote from a site I found: Here is what I did. Go to C:\WINNT\System32. Make sure your view is set to 'Details'. Right Click anywhere on the Category Bar where is says 'Name', 'Size', 'Type', and so on. Select 'More...'. Scroll Down to 'Product Name'. Check its checkbox, then click 'OK'. It will take a few seconds for the items that have a Product Name to show. Look for the one that has the Product Name 'werule'. That's the evil beast. In my system, it was named mstyled.exe. I ended the process in the task manager, then deleted it and the popups stopped. I rebooted and then there was another werule with the filename pup.exe (like orokusaki had). I deleted it too, then rebooted and it looks like it may be gone for good now... Tip: After you're done, remove the 'Product Name' from your Category Bar using the same method, because it takes forever for all the files to show up when you open this folder. That is for mainly XP users, but other tips are available on the rest of the page here. Another good way to prevent this in the future is to add belgiandip.com to your list of restricted sites.
Hey Felix, I saw your post in random thoughts... did you try Panicware's pop-up blocker? You can get it here. I use that in combination with the Alta-Vista toolbar, it has a pop-up blocker in it. They work pretty well together, and with Panicware's you can report pop-ups. Hope you can get this evil problem under control!
If you keep getting pop-ups, even from other sites, get a program like Spybot or Ad-Aware, install it and remove all the spyware. I'd also recommend getting a virus scan on your computer because you never know. :wth: The Google/Yahoo/AltaVista Toolbar helps to block pop-ups too. http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
